ive been searching around for a new dizzy. ive talked to some of my father in laws old hot rod buddies also. they told me that swapping to a HEI dizzy is way beeter than the stock Ford dizzys. I seen one on a 1924 t-bucket with a serious 289 in it. the guy told me its just one wire hook up and has tach hook up options also. that's on a carbed engine. now my question if its not already obvious... will it be compatible with the fuel injection and still have my tach working ?

Ford's ignition system is quite a bit better. Even Ford's older Duraspark setups were better than HEI and that is pre TFI. So your talking about reverting a couple generations worth of ignition advancements.

It all comes down to personal preference. If you want the cleaner look and are not worried about the performance/tune-ability loss than its a good option. But on a 95 where the TFI is hidden under the air cleaner and not even on the distributor your not even cleaning up appearance, odds are its additional size would add to the clutter.

Also why are you looking for a new distributor, even the MSD stuff does not last or work as good as the factory Motorcraft distributor.

the other day I changed my intake gaskets and pulled the distributor. upon reinstalling it I noticed three cracks where the oil pump drive rod inserts. also while turning it to catch the gear so it would go all the way down I noticed it was wobbling, so I have a cracked warped distributor. I was told that they were 35 bucks from local auto stores. that's a no go. they are all around 70 to 100. so this would be my reasoning behind this. prior to finding this out I remember talking to a few people and have seen the hei on a couple of fords. the hei is like 161 bucks. now I do know that ford does have the best electronics as far as not being so finicy like gms, but I also know that GM and Ford do run head to head most of the time with electronics since the early 90s. it was something I was just pondering and really wanted to know if this has been done before on a 94-95 5.0l. and if so how did it turn out. but come to think of it. all the heis ive ever seen on fords were carbed. so that's what started the pondering. im good though. I think im just going to bite the bullet and buy the new ford dizzy. I dont like putting something remanufactured on my car when it comes to timing components.

I have a GM HEI on my 89 GT and it works great. I've also had a bunch of buddies at my car club seriously consider converting, after seeing how my car runs.

Nothing against a FoMoCo ignition...since I have no computer/emissions equipment, I thought I'd give it a try.

Usually, loss of spark when hot is the result of a bad ICM or coil.

Also you bumped a 10 year old thread.
