If that is not connected to the CAI the motor is drawing unmetered air into the throttle body and that is why you are getting a lean code. Either hook that thing up or plug the hole in the CAI.

so here is what the bottom looks like there are 4 ports, the guy said he had nitros hooked up to it at 1 point, 2 of the ports look to be self added the other 2 look factory any idea where i should install an inlet or anything ?

also came with this thing attached to the heat sheild, I have no clue
Dude you can't run that CAI with all those holes in it! You need to plug those up. I'm surprised that your car even runs with all of those openings. One hole and it would run rough, 4 holes and I would't think it would go very well.
Anyways. Quick explanation on how a 4-stroke engine works. You should understand the basics before you star bolting **** up to your car. Air comes through the intake and gets metered by the mass air flow sensor. Goes through your throttle body (operated by the throttle) and enters the intake. It then gets distributed to the ind. cylinders where fuel is added and then it is ignited. Then those gases go out through your exhaust. Now your car knows how much fuel to add by the MAF telling it how much air is flowing into the engine. This air/gas mix is your Air/Fuel charge and should be at an optimum level for combustion. When there is too much gas it is running rich. If there is too much air it is running lean. Now what you have going on is you have air coming through the MAF and your computer is calculating how much fuel to add. But with all of those holes the engine is sucking up more air than it sees with the maf and is not compensating for it with extra fuel because that air is entering after the MAF takes it's readings. That is why you are running lean.

That second pic looks like some kind of homemade catch can for your PVC system. If you're not going to run a closed loop PVC system I would just chuck it out, which would be my suggestion.

what they said. Plug the holes, and the silver canister is a catch can. Search "catch can" in the 05+ forums and learn about what it does and how it works. Basicaly it keeps oil and junk out of your intake manifold
Yeah I was going to tell him to ditch it and install some breathers, but I didn't want to confuse him with more techinical stuff and get into that whole breather debate.

I had the holes plugged before the picture I removed them for refrence :) i are not a complete nub, I figured he had the first hole plugged and ran the vent line to the catch can, i'll go back and re seal all the other holes, do I need the vent hose coming from the valve cover installed on the CAI? that appears to be the tube I am missing.
If you are going to run a closed loop system you need the one from the passenger side to go to the CAI and the one from the drivers side needs to go to the intake manifold. You have to run both or none. If you are running the passenger side to the catch can, then you need to run one from the catch can to the CAI.
