Help With Poor Man's Bullett

I'm putting the chrome door edge guard around my stock front grille like some of you guys have done. I can't get it to turn the corner and was wondering if anyone that did this, did it by taking the grille out, or doing it with the grille in. Any help would be appreciated. btw the temp is warm enough. Directions say at least 65 degrees. It seems like there's enough room to do it with the grille in, but I'm not sure.
