What's even more badass is you can kind of visually see when your oil is getting skunky, and hell it might even catch a metal shard (Hope to God not) early on? Never know. **** man I wanna do it now, too bad I'm not allowed off base because apperantly I'm a young child and can't go out in the free world by myself after nine o clock at night.

I had this first.



Then I had this in for a while.



But then I switched back and built a bracket for it and put the can back on.

I used one where the inlet/outlet were both on top, just coming out of seperate sides. Still around 20. I ended up welding a bracket to the top and slid it under one of the CC plate bolts so its right on the strut tower. I think it is more convenient because I don't have to fiddle with hoses when draining it.

Yours still looks nice and well done though. A+
I totally forgot to figure out how I was going to mount it before I went and got parts (which is why it's zip-tied to another vacuum line lol). If I switch over to the filter with the inlet/outlet on top then I think I'm going to mount it to the firewall or the strut tower.

so in your setup mcqueen, the line running from the valve cover should be running into the bottom of the filter right? is that the mistake you were talking about lol

Correct. I was a bit distracted and put it on the wrong way. I'm trying to decide if it's going to be more beneficial to have the actual filter that's inside on the top or bottom because I have plenty of hose left if I have to redo them.

is there a way to empty the filter once its full without getting the actual filter inside drenched in oil?
I'll let you know once I find out haha.

haha thanks. you got it setup good how it is, i think if you wanted to you could put some kind of mesh in the middle to act as a double filter

I hear a piece of loofah (the thing women wash with) actually works pretty well as a filter in a catch can.

Mine fills the bowl up half way ever month. Plus in the winter I get some water in it from the block warming up quick and condensing inside the crankcase.

yep. i actually saw that on a honda forum:tomato

of course the only reason i saw it was because it was a google result when searching homemade catch cans, as i do not regularly search the honda forums:shiftyeyes

So I was just out working on the car and I started it up to make sure everything was working right. Turns out the cheap hose I went with couldn't withstand the vacuum from the engine. So tomorrow I'm going to make a little trip to the auto parts store to find something stronger.

I also remembered why I don't let anyone else touch my car. I heard a rattling noise while I was revving up the engine and I looked around for a while, only to find one of my spark plugs was coming loose and rattling. Now I've got a melted knuckle from the ****ing exhaust manifold.

I'm digging the write up man. I'll rep ya when I can get to my computer. I've wanted to do this for a while. I always see the area around my pcv like all oily and I keep having to clean it off.

Looks good. I might just be paranoid but I'd use hose clamps to prevent anything from blowing off or vacuum leaks.

Also regarding the filter:
I'd get a good coalescing type, similar to what you have, and if you're really ambitious, put a fitting on the drain plug and leave the petcock open. Drill and tap a fitting into the oil pan, or T one if you already have one for a super/turbocharger. Run a hose from the drain port to the pan and voila! You have a CCV coalescing filter system just like larger heavy duty engines come with from the factory. No draining required.

I'm tempted to do this since I've got the engine out of the car and the oil pan off. I don't have anywhere to plug my welder in to in my storage space though...hmm...

Didn't get a chance to get any new hose today (too busy getting my Termi bumper installed, it was a bitch). Going to pick up some 3/8" fuel line tomorrow.

That's not a bad idea. I didn't think of it before but you could probably T it into your dipstick port, or see if there's an alternate dipstick casting in it.

Of course our motors don't have quite as many option ports as the ones at work. Seriously, look at all the ports on a Cummins engine. If you don't know exactly what ones you need to plumb, you'll probably cry. Makes for plenty of headaches.
