I have found out using my GPS that my speedo is 5mph slower. Would this mean I might have a gear?
If you put a gear in, will the speedo be slower or faster?

Not necessarily, my dad's 99 Expedition is like 4 mph slow according to the gps, but I can assure you that it doesn't have anything special like that, lol.

Stock Speedometers are not calibrated. Therefore they can have error built in. Only speedos that are cal'd are Cop cars.

Cause there is room for error. Your speedo is calulated off a drive gear and rotations. The gears have built in error in them. 99-up elec speedos are more accurate.
This is why when you change gears in a 98 lower car, the speedos arent exactly on everytime, the gears FRPP sells to correct the speedos arent perfectly matched for the gears you install.

After i put in 3.73's my speedo read about 10MPH high
