Is it the car or is it the driver?

Just thought I'd let you in on a little observation I made at the track yesterday. As some of you know I recently changed the clutch, transmission as well as the shifter in recent weeks. As a result I had to break things in on the way to the NMRA finals. At the finals I was very gentle (needed to make the 2.5 hour drive home) on the new set-up and ran 11.80's in the 1/4 and 7.60's 1/8 mile times.

So today at the local 1/8 I decided to step up the driving a bit and lean on the new combo hoping for a new best.
First pass off the street I launched at 4500 and more aggressively shifted while still lifting on each shift. Results was a [email protected] with a 1.64 60'. Knowing the car had more in it I made one more pass without changes to verify things and with the same 4500 launch ran a [email protected] with a slightly better 1.62 60'.
Since the track seemed to be coming around, I raised the launch to 5000 and although still lift shifting ran a [email protected] with a 1.58 60', good for a new season's best E.T.
For the last pass of the day I stuck with the 5000 launch but powershifted every gear and was rewarded with a another new best of [email protected] and a 1.57 60'. All these were ran with bottle pressure right on 1000psi with steady air temps. The only change was more aggressive driving......something a lot of people never figure out. :D

I see the same thing happen at autocross all the time.

Rather than try a different way of driving, they start mucking with the car.

+1 for the driver mod.
not even gonna read it cause 99% of the time the answer is: DRIVER
i read it. i was right. definitely can be attributed to the driver mod! driving with more balls, man!
pretty damn good... is it a full interior car and everything? trying to see where my car stands? whats your mods besides the cams and the bottle? and what tires do you run on? im at 11.3 at 119 with my cams and the 150 pill...

Thanks, I have Corbeau seats and a rear seat delete for interior mods. Still got the Mach 460, A/C etc. Also on the stock K-member and a-arms but have got the weight down to 3300# with driver. Full UPR pro series rear kit on Hoosier QTP DOT's. I'd love to see what the car would do on 28" slicks but the rules say DOT's and I'm too poor to have both:D Your times are damn good as well. I think the auto does a little better job of putting down the power than a stick does.
i do have a k-member but stock arms..but interior is fully stock i finally weighed it and it was at 3345 which i was suprised at that...car cut a good 1.53 60ft... still trying to set in the suspension and never set my pinon angle...

With that 60 you can't be far off:D What does your car run in the 1/8th?
Awesome Jay. I want those numbers
yeah my pinon angle is off like 3* lol...and me being slamed to the ground a lil more than 2in probably dont help either but hey the car ****ing looks good lmao.... in the 8th it runs 7.30s all day long... when the nitrous is acting right lol and i meant to put 3445 for my cars weight..
How big of a shot are you running and what exhaust are you running also?
He runs stock manifolds. I think all he has is a cat back and mid pipe. Nice runs JayC!!
Just for all to see the difference in the 1/4, his first run he ran a 11.78 so as the second one. Third run he ran a 11.62. Last run he ran an 11.47. These are approximate times but the difference between his runs are s difference of .31. That's huge. 3 tenths because of driver. With out any adjustments to the car. To some, still think the driver doesn't play a huge role?
nice runs man.

no need for long tubes since im going turbo lol.....:D
Driver mod for sure! I cut 1/2 second off of my 1/4 mile et by just launching higher and having more practice slipping the clutch. Def still slower than you though JayC, damn those are quick times
This is definitely a driver issue... What was the question?
