wat exactly causes a lifter tick? ive heard terms like "bleed down" but if they do that y cant get any oil back in them? my tick stared about 2 weeks ago, you cant really here it when its cold, it doesnt get louder but ticks faster if you rev it.i just changed the oil (10w-30), ive heard lucas stabilizer helps it but i wanna fix it and replace the right parts, ill be puttin an explorer intake on soon so ill have it all apart.

here is a trick i have used for years and it has worked every time....

get about 1/2 quart of desil fuel and pour it into your oil,drive around for a few ours or a day or two right befor an oil change, make sure u drive in a gear lower then u uausaly do(if its a 5 speed) to keep the rpm's up to keep your oil pressure up.the heat of your engine plus the desil fuel breaks all the sludge that are blocking and clogging all your oil ports and the desil is oil based so its safe on bearings and internal parts it wont dry it out. then change your oil and all that nasty stuff will come out with it. i also reccommend changind your oil filter about half way through your next oil change to catch any debris that is still in there.

there is a product at your autoparts store for like 6 dollars but IMO the desil works better and it only cost about .50 cents...

it was funny i did it in my VW and i drove up to the pump poped my hood and put the desil nozzle right in the oil fill hole everyone at the gas station was like ate you crazy lol..

it is also good to do before a rebuild it makes the engine look new inside...

i used and engine safe flush product before i changed the oil but i didnt drive it i only let it idle for a minute or 2 and a few revs. but no dice. lol ill have to try the diesel trick. can driving it now hurt anything. also my oil psi is a line or 2 above the half way mark is that ok?

ya thats ok ya u didnt give it time to work like i said use the desil fuel maybe use 3/4 of a quart if its bad and u have to drive it around it has to heat up and the oil pressure has to be consistant to clean all the ports. put it in and go drive to somewhere that is an hour away take a break eat lunch drive back and get your oil changed before the stuff settles...

if that doesnt work u have other problems perhaps a bad lifter loose rocker both of witch can be fixed when u change your intake..

It might just not have any preload and needs to be readjusted due to wearing of parts.

not entirely true, you are supposed to adjust them by using shims under the pedestals.

wouldnt that just make it worse if he shimmed it.. i have never seen shims on stock rockers just the little metal seats they sit on i dont doubt u though...

Yes, you are supposed to shim them whenever you use pedestal mount rockers. You can't see the shim unless you take the rocker off. In his case, he would take a shim out or replace with a thinner shim. IF there is no shim, you would need a +0.050" pushrod and then shim to the correct preload.

In my case I think it's a collapsed lifter. I have started to take apart the top end and when I put it all back together you can bet I am going carbed.

There is SO much junk associated with F.I. ...
