M112 Build & Advice - It's On!

I just read 21 pages of TicketMeYellow's build to be disappointed on page 20 - best of luck to your next attempt my friend!

I'm attempting the same build with a little different setup. I'm looking for advice from people who have been involved in this build and I guess anyone who has GOOD ideas. What were the tough points and maybe some pointers on the custom work like IAC reloaction and IAT wiring...

If you don't already know, here's the rundown -

I wanna make 300whp or atleast get close. I have a nitrous system I can throw on if I fall short :) I know it needs to be dry because of the Teflon coating..

Supercoupe rotating assembly (forged) w/ 8.1 pistons
ARP throughout
99 3.8 block - NO MIRCs!!!!
Sniper Tuning System
Stock valves
CompCams Xtreme Energy Supercharger Cam
- Not yet ordered and still up for exact specs but I'll use their recommended pushrods, springs, retainers, etc so everything will be ok for the lift, I'd rather all valvetrain parts from the same source to know they will work together but I'm also open to ideas...
Chris suggested SSMS 1.6 Adjustable Roller Rockers and I agree so far

Things I'm not sure of and would like a word or two on:
Good way to go on bearings - Main, Rod, and Cam
Good price / location for buying a complete gasket kit or should I buy individually because of the need for High Performance head gaskets??
Oh yea and WHERE THE HECK IS TOM MORANA?? LoL He's not answering his phone anymore...
Unsure of the pulley on my m112 - how much and where to go for new one??
Are we just running the 6 rib belt on the 8 rib pulley?

Any advice on the custom mods including but not limited to:

Fuel Rail Modification
IAC Relocation
IAT Reloaction & Harness Lengthening
Tensioner Fabrication - Not there yet so I don't know whats involved, heard MySteed had a nice one??

Thanks for reading and any input. I got a good grip on most of the stuff I'm just lookin for small pointers and maybe someone knows what I've overlooked.

Oh yea and pics f*in rock - thanks for any helpful pics in advance!

What year is your car now?
If your using a supercoupe crank and internals, you're using the supercoupe block also. You wan't a 99-01 lower intake that doesn't have IMRC's. 300hp is simple with an m112 or almost anything else really. I would do a custom cam instead of something off the shelf from comp. Get the ford MLS head gaskets and you'll be fine.
I have an 02 right now. The supercoupe crank rear main journal is .010 smaller than ours, everything else is the same. I'm having the other main journals machined down .010 and running .010 undersized bearings.

Yea the lower I'm running has no IMRC's thank goodness. Before this setup I was porting a set of intakes w/ IMRC's and like 2 weeks into it (just working a runner here and there) I trashed them, what a pain they are.

Any idea on specs for a custom grind cam? I called Comp and they said just run this off the shelf 3.8 supercharger cam. But I do want something tailored to my setup... maybe call SSMS next week
i didnt recommend 1.6s.....1.7 or 1.73s...hell i'd stick with stockers on a stock bottom end. anything over 6000rpms is bad for the connecting rods anyway if you make power
Haha If you need a pic of somethin i can probs help you!
TicketMeYellow - I've never seen a setup w/ the tensioner pulley above and left of the alternator like that, what did you use to fab that up?

Chris - Sorry I thought SSMS adjustables were 1.6's but you're right, they're 1.7's. And as my DD I definitly don't plan on taking it any higher than 5500 at MOST

Got a couple parts today, skinny blue injectors (39#) I'm told. Cobra MAF but he said it was 90mm... Cobra TB and throttle cable, CAI - the list keeps getting smaller!! By end of next week I should have the bottom end and the heads out for machine work
The idler pulley can either be fabbed by yourself or probably from mysteed over at 3.8mustang
Yea it looks like some all thread and some patience

Got the quote from the machine shop for all the work its gonna be $1400

Clean & Inspect Block
Hone Cylinders
Remove & Install Cam Bearings
Recondition the SuperCoupe Rods & Install ARP Rod Bolts (Supplied By Me)
Grind & Polish Crankshaft
Align-Bore Block For ARP Main Bolts
Balance Rotating Assembly
Check & Machine (If Needed) Cylinder Heads

I purchased the ARP Rod Bolts from Tom Morana but now I can't seem to get a hold of him to get the other ARP hardware I want (Main Bolts & Head Studs).

Anyone know of another location for purchasing those items??

Why not go with a h beam rod while you are there??
Never really priced them and I don't think they are needed. As expected I'm approaching my budget number very quickly, but all in all I've heard good things about the forged SuperCoupe rods. I appreciate the thought!

Thanks to Redux I've second guessed my motor break in process though. Suggestions? Proven Methods?

Break it in N/A for a few thousand, then put on the s/c but keep the boost and throttle down for a few thousand and gradually introduce full power, tuning it each time? I definitly could use some words of wisdom in this department, thanks!
Hope you meant that in the best way possible. lol
Absolutely! Now there's a Pinks: All Out event 2 hours away from here in March. I would like to have the car fully running by then but if the break in takes too long I won't be able to go... How does Ford break in the cobra motors?? Do they break them in on a stand or something first before shipping them out to dealerships?
