Will a Mechanical Water Temp Gauge with a capillary tube work on my 91 GT 5.0? Will it fit in the factory water temp sensor bung on the manifold?

I tried connecting the capillary temp sender in the Water Temp hole in the intake and the damn nut they provide (cannot switch out unless I cut the tube) does not fit correctly. Also the capillary tube can be pushed down father in the intake and be pulled the other way....cannot be pulled out when the nut is in the hole. I dunno....the dang nut screws in to the hole but the upper part of the nut where the socket fits around in slightly smaller than the stock sender so it goes down into the hole....but it screws in it doesn't fall in. WTH!
