I have a 1969 mustang fastback with a 1994 5.0 HO engine in it. It is pretty much stock aside from a cold air intake and was wondering what are some of the essential modifications i should start putting into it to improve my preformance at the track. Any advice at all will be extremely helpful. What should be the first couple things i buy?
Thanks!

hahaha ok well lets say i have $800 right now and am tryin to lower my quarter time (runnin low 15's right now :/ ) what should i get first?? I was lookin at this intake Ford Racing M-9424-Z51P - Ford Racing Cobra Intake Manifolds - Overview - SummitRacing.com but it says up to 93 and mines a 94 engine?) And later when i get more money what should i get then? Names or websites would be awesome!

No, that 93 intake will not "bolt on" a 94-95 car. Now, if you want to change over to a 87-93 throttle cable assembly it will work.

i have a 95 with the same motor. the 87-93 intakes will work on that motor, all you have to get is the intake elbow so the throttle body will bolt up...its a $90 part brand new. Any intake for the 5.0 should work if you have that elbow....

BUT, i would spend my 800 on a gear for the back, headers, exhaust, subframes etc. Intake will not yield you much unless you are doing heads and cam as well. You should be able to "Feel" the difference with a 3:73 or 4:10 gear, and should get some increase in HP with easy, simple mods like exhaust, pullies, larger throttle body etc. For 800, you should be able to get the gear installed, and maybe headers.

Beautiful car BTW

A Performer is also a good one for that engine............

gears and long tubes are also good alternative mods too.

if the motor is in a '69 then what applies to a 94-95 really doesnt make a difference. OP, was that supposed to read "5.0 sho" or "5.0 ho" motor?

that's correct if the same hood clearancce issues do not apply..........and I thought maybe that's why a 94 engine was chosen. If not, then you can use the 87-93 intakes. There is about 1" difference in height.

Check out some of these intakes listed below.. I found the flow #'s on aother site and thought that I would share them.

All three intakes (cobra, gt40, explorer) use the same lower intake. The gt40 flows tends to make the best power of all three, but on paper flows comparable to the 93 cobra. The cobra and explorer are comparable, a slight advantage to the cobra.

Here are some flow numbers from edelbrock - if you can decipher the table ( the first 8 numbers are each runner, the 9th number is the avg)

The Raw Numbers
Runner CFM
Intake 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8, Average, Flow Differential CFM, Percent, Avg. CFM per sq.in.

GT-40 186 202 202 204 182 197 198 201 197 22 10.8 93.4

'93 Cobra 187 203 200 200 188 206 207 208 200 21 10.1 102

'94-'95 Cobra 184 200 197 198 186 206 206 207 198 23 11.1 99.5

Edelbrock 206 212 209 209 203 215 215 206 210 12 5.6 108.2

Downs Ford 193 183 215 203 191 219 207 226 205 43 19 97.2

Explorer 169 180 176 180 177 177 183 183 178 14 7.7 84.4

Just some food for thought...;)
