All I have is a ratchet with a very short extension or a wrench, the top bolt is the one that gives me problems

i haven't remove one on my mustang, but my Haynes Manual suggests jack stands and turning the wheel to get better access. that's all the help i can offer. :)

^^ +1 go buy two more long extensions and you will be able to get to the bolt from the front of the motor.

I bought a mustang performace book and I guess the 1993 (or later foxes) have a starter that only weighs 7 lbs but will work well on older foxes and it takes less energy to crank.
