I'm looking to pick up a project car to work on this winter, found this one on craigslist. Mechanically its fine, everything works for the most part. I'm fairly new to this so I'm not too sure about my bodywork skills. Interior/engine I've got no problems, its just the exterior rust that bothers me. The wheelwells appear to be rusted out. Anyone have any suggestions? Theres more than in the pics, these are just some of the bigger spots. Is it too much rust, or am I expecting too much of a gem? I've seen some people take what look like complete rustbuckets and turn them into works of art, so I don't really know. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks.

It looks like a lot of complicated body work to me and you never really know what is there until the car is striped down to bare metal. What concerns me the most is the rust under the windshield. I’m sure it can be repaired, but it might cost a little to have professionally done.

It doesn't look to bad to me. One obvious problem is that it was repainted and the rust is coming back through. This would indicate it was not properly preped for paint. All the rust wasn't removed before it was repainted.

I would think someone just gave it a little light sanding and primed over that, then painted for a good sale price.

You may be pleasantly suprised when you get it stripped down, or you may find a nightmare. Unfortunately, the best way to find out is to start taking it apart and sanding it down, and I don't think the will let you do that without buying it first.

you mean replace it. Painted rust comes right back.
Replaced sheet metal fixes the problem. On that car, it needs a lot of replace panels.
