I was told not to crank it without the fuel system because then the lash adjusters make contact un lubricated, could i put the priming system into the oil sending unit some how?
One would think Ford would know how to do this...

While Ford's method does work to prime the system, it's intended to be quick/easy for their techs. Using an external source of pressurized oil to prime the system insures that everything receives pressurized oil without spinning the rotating assembly via the starter motor. It just takes a little more effort.
