Sorry for the newb question but it's about time to get my hands dirty. So what is the proper point to jack the car up from (front) using a hydraulic jack? And where should the jack stands be placed so they won't cause any damage?

Put the floor jack under the center of the k-member...be sure not to go under the oil pan lol once you have it up put your stands on the steel between whe two mounting points of the lower control arms. In the back put the floor jack right under the rear end...after its up put the stands under the axle tubes...no big deal really :yes

I have never had problems using my sub frame connectors, but that picture pretty much covers the options.

to OP...if you have subframe connectors this is a fine idea....just dont mistake that lip right behind the plastic rocker panel to be a good lifting point too...you will bend some major ****! lol

So I was looking to change the bank 1 upstream o2 sensor. Got the stang jack up and on stands real quick thanks to you guys. Crawled underneath, looked up, and wondered how the **** I was supposed to get that sensor out. I could barely get a wrench into the little space and I just couldn't get the ****er off. I've heard stories about it beind a bitch but I didn't think it would be that difficult. I'll give it another shot on a warmer day..

Alot will depend on the size of Jack stands you are using. If using small ones designed for a small car, you might be better suited to place them on a safe spot on the lower control arm on the front. The more you extend an axle stand, the less safe they become. Trying to fit them on the frame rail could be a challenge to do safely.http://www.hts-direct.co.uk/

On a side note, I did this on my old V6 on the advice of my father who knows nothing about cars. Luckily it didn't do much besides bend that rocker panel a bit.
