I made a late night snack about 4 or 5 days while watching Rocky 4 from my dvr. In my tired state I left out my nacho ingredients for a little bit before going to put them away. Once I opened my kitchen door I saw this brown blur with a tail bolt up from the floor and haul ass into an open mid-height cabinet under my sink. Was unable to find the thing that night.

Did some investigating and found I had a foundation vent that had been knocked out on the side of my house, no biggie got it re-installed and sealed up. We have been having the winter-spring-winter-spring weather changes here and critters have been going nuts. Still need to find how it got from my crawl space to the interior of the house though. So I laid down miscellaneous glue traps, 2 live animal traps, and a few of the spring traps throughout the crawl space and my kitchen hoping to catch the thing. Not a single thing has been touched in the past 4 days since putting it all out. I don't know if I am missing a key rat catching component here or what.

Anyone have any ideas to try and catch this thing? I am about ready to call an exterminator if I can't catch it by this weekend.

Set fire to house.
Laugh maniacally as rats scamper out
Think about what you've done
Create elaborate story for insurance purposes.

But seriously, maybe it deked outta the house and you managed to keep it out after sealing that vent. Can you hear any movement at night? Rats have a pretty distinctive patter sound when they run. The live traps etc. should do the job. I'd leave them for a few days and see if you have any luck!

What have you been putting in the traps? Peanut butter tends to work real good.

Rats are pretty smart, theyre afraid of new things sometimes and catch on that these things are trying to catch/kill them. What I had to do for some was leave the traps unset but full of peanut butter, they would be all afraid of them but eventually learn that they were a food source. They eat eat eat that **** for a few days THEN you actually set the traps and they never know what hit them.

I have been using peanut butter and a cheese spread. If I don't have a new inmate by Friday I will remove the trigger parts and big door and see if they notice.

I've never caught a rat but I do have plenty of mice here. Every year I try to keep the mice out of my shed and the mower that's in the shed. I've tried almost every type of trap and mothballs and they always end up in my mower and chew up the wires.

The past 2 years I take one of the oil catch pans that you can buy at any auto parts store (on with the open top for catching oil when you open a differential or something like that) and filled it with 1 gallon of antifreeze. If you have animals (cats, dogs, etc) in your house then do NOT do this as it can kill them. The antifreeze is sweet and mice love it. For mice, they get in the antifreeze and cannot climb back out and die. Then I go in with a garden shovel and throw them away. For the past 2 years I've not had a single mouse nest in my mower. I'm not sure if a rat would get stuck in the oil pan, but if it ate the antifreeze it would go off and die. Depending on where he dies, that may be a good or bad thing.

Can't do the antifreeze deal we have dogs, and rabbits that would be able to get to it.

Nothing. I am hoping it has vacated from me scaring the heck out of it but the traps will stay out for at least another week.

Do rats follow the saying that for every one you see, there are 6 more you don't, like for mice? I would try to get that thing out ASAP, just to be sure they cannot breed and become a much bigger problem.

Checked this morning before work and still nothing except a few spiders in the crawl space glue traps. I am literally going to put nachos in the traps this weekend at this point. That is what it liked before.
