What are the benefits of the handheld over the chip? Im looking to do gears next week (finally!!!) and dont wanna cash out almost $400 for the handheld if the chip will do the same thing.

chip has the knoob that will the same thing as the hand held.
Aren't those presets in the chip. With the tuner you can adjust certain parameters such as shift points, pressure, speed limiters, rev limiters in neutral, rev limiters in drive, and quite a few more things that I want list on here that can be changed at anytime right there on a display to your liking with a handheld tuner. So OP I say just read up on the topic a bit and decide from there.

They use to sell that knob on AM for the chip but I don't think they sell it anymore.

Chip isn't "configurable".. with the tuner you can tweak things.. for example I have a tune for 87 octane and 93.. so just in case I'm in a pinch and HAVE to put in 87 I can just plug it in and retune. You can also play with some of the other settings, resetting your speedo for new/different tires. And don't forget as you add on more things the tuner allows you to tweak the overall performance to get more out of your other mods..

FYI, I have the SCT Tuner. got it with my 4.10s... love them both.

Nasty Gt,

They'll both tune your car the same way. However the handheld has a lot of benefits over the chip after that point. The chip is plug and play and you're good to go! However anytime you need a new tune, you have to send it back to us to be re-burnt.

When getting a re-tune with the hand held all you have to do is give us a call and we'll email you a revised file and you can just download it. The SF3 will also allow you to store/transfer tunes, Check/Clear CEL lights, Datalog and much more!

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions or need some assistance! Our Bama Performance tuning specialists are here in the building Monday-Friday from 9AM-5:30PM EST and Saturday 9AM-5:30PM EST. You can hit them up directly at 888.226.9764 and they'll get you squared away!

Handheld tuners have come a long way in recent years. When I installed my supercharger the only option was a chip that the tuner could calibrate. Any tuner with the software can calibrate the chip. I have my car dyno tuned and my tuner is very good. He doesn't charge for small tweaks. It took him less than five minutes to pull the chip, adjust it for 3.73 gears, and reinstall it.

Nowaday, some dyno tuners are recommending handheld tuners.
