96 gt. when the steering wheel is in the neutral position you can turn it left and right about a inch before it starts to turn. its been this way since i had a wreck in December. i got hit in the rear end. my wheels got turned all the way to right and i slide about ten feet. when i got my car back from the body shop i had it all aligned and they didn't really didn't check anything else. i have had a few people tell me that it could be the rack and pinion.
what else could it be?

My car is the same way, although mine has about half an inch of play. I believe its the steering rack. I'm going to replace it and see what happens. Hopefully it will help my front tire wear as well.
