so i was at the autoparts store the otherday with a friend and saw a spectre CAI for a 2005-10 mustang with the 4.6l, and for the heck of it i bought it and made it fit my 4.0l mustang.
now the car is throwing a lean code, do i need a tuner to fix this?

Yes or reinstall the stock airbox. Standalone CAIs are worthless IMO, the tune makes the difference

youll be able to get a custom tune it just wont be as easy as just telling them what kind of intake you have. youll have to tell them the diameter of the maf tube. just measure the diameter in mm and send them the info when you have them do a custom tune for you

Yikes.

Might I recommend research before the purchase.

lol that takes all the fun out of it!

yeah i suppose i shouldve looked into how well it would work ahead of time, but i knew it was a bit of a gamble at the time.
so it is what it is i suppose.

and thanks for the advice about sending them the measurements.

I did a similar project fitting a GT version of JLT CAI on my v6 with a reducer. The pre=canned JLT tune worked well for it, and then I decided to get a custom tune from CMR chip tuner. Took a little longer to get the tune "dialed in" but they can do it, and now it runs great! DTP racing did mine. Just ask around and let them know what you did.
