I just bought a 94 GT and found water in the trunk after a rain storm. I took all the trunk panels out, then I put the rear seats down and crawled into the trunk with a flashlight. I had the wife put water all over the car. I found water pouring in from the area where you put the fuel nozzel in. It was leaking between the the quarter panel and the plastic box that holds the filler neck to the quarter panel. I hope this makes sence. I'm guessing there is a gasket between the quarterpanel and the plastic box but I don't know what to ask for.

Has anyone changed this gasket or had this problem?

did a search but couldn't find any info on this problem.

Yep you are right, I found the problem.

Any idea what the seal is called so I can order the gasket or any advise or tips from others who have had this problem on the best way to go about fixing the problem?

Take that box out of there first so you can really see what's going on. I think there's a overflow/water drain hole rite on the bottom of the gas cap in case you overfill the tank the fuel spills out or when you wash the car and water gets past the fuel door. I think the overflow fuel or water would travel through a tube which might be broken inside causing the leak. Hopefully it's not the fuel filler pipe since that's a pain in the ass to change and expensive for a new one.

this is also happening to me, i have a 2000 but i think the filler necks are pretty much the same, mine is leaking right between the black part with the "B" written on it and the inside quarter panel.

I had pulled it down to drop the tank and it apears that there was a double sided tape like gasket. Im not sure if i should just get a roll of automotive double sided tape or order the new gasket :dunno

Thanks for the help guys. I really hate these kinds of problems. I'll check the drain tube and I will see if I can get a replacement gasket. If not I'm sure I can make one.

I couldn't find anything on this problem. I did searches on this forum, other forums, and google but all that cam up was how to change the filler neck to tank grommet. I figured this would be a common problem that would be posted more.
