Definitely not as common as 2JZ's, but I remember a guy with an iron block 6.0 and stock heads making 1000+ horsepower and running mid 8's on a twin turbo setup.
Lots of cobras doing it too.

A guy over on SVTP had an on3 turbo on a truck coyote (in a Mustang) and was running low 9s IIRC. He had valve springs on the engine and nothing else.

Yeah true. I always toy around with the notion of getting a LS car to see what the buzz is about them but I don't ever think I could pull the trigger on it lol. I like all cars but Ford is my #1 at heart.

And I also figured that SBF could make as much as LS once most things are equal between the two.

Now let's speak integrity between the two. We all know the Windsor 302 block splits at around 500hp while the LSX is still holding strong, and that the rods are the weak point in the NA 4.6's and Lightnings. If the rods in the modulars were strong enough, could the engine hold significantly more power than ~450whp, even with pistons and crank stock? I'm just speaking hypothetically. I like to see where things go wrong and if that sole part was fixed would the rest of the engine hold up.

The problem with your comparison is the use of an 8.2 deck Ford. The 9.5 deck Ford can do anything an LS can do. The only place the LS has an advantage over a 351W, is the stock heads. I've got $3500 in my engine.....bring on the LSjunks.

Truth. I've seen a video of a cammed ls1 running a 351 fox which had a high lift can and worked over Windsor sr. IRON heads. The 351 pulled on the LS some runs, others it was about half a car to a car difference. I'm sure if you put some nice flowing heads on a 351 you'd be saying byebye to the LS.

You have 3500 into your car and are capable of 10s? What's all done, engine size included?

$3500 in the engine (not car), and mid 9s.

It's a 4.00" stroke 351W, which takes it to a 408, with a H/C/I package that I put together for cheap.

Here is a LS1 stroked to a 408, with H/C/I. Both cars are built autos, and my car was on motor and he was spraying. Now, I despise roll racing, but he wouldn't race me from a dig, because he knows it would have been UGLY, so I raced him to prove a point.

Exact same mods, him on the bottle, me on motor. I love LS cars because it's easy money.

Here's his buddy with a cam'd LS1, stalled auto, and a 125 shot. Mo money in my pocket.

Now that right there is what I like, seeing a Ford outrun a LS cube for cube. What kind of top end do you have on that anyways? I know these Fords can run wicked. There's a video of a 393w notchback with low compression that ran 11.60's on 87! But it also had a 4500 stall C4 so I'm sure he had a wicked launch. Once he went back to premium it cut down to 11.30-11.40's. Then once he boosted it, thing was running 9's and even appeared to have full interior trim

Cube for cube....****, he had a power adder.

I went 6.20s, which is high 9s in the 1/4, on 91 pump gas. Full interior, and all that junk.
I would love to build an engine like yours. So freaking cool

Class rules vary track to track. I was doing a street car challenge race when I ran that on pump gas. I normally run 110 when I spray, but only because it's forgiving and gives a larger tuning window when spraying it. I drive it almost everyday day on pump gas.

Scat cast crank, Scat I beam rods, Probe forged Pistons, a set of used Trick Flow heads, a Used Vic Jr intake, used Victor water pump, and a Bullet cam spec'd by Chris Straub. The engine is 10.28:1 compression

See, people want to compare these junkyard LS motors, to a rebuilt SBF, with new parts. Compare a JY LS motor, to a Ford built with used parts.

There are places to spend money to make power that are often overlooked. Just do some reasearch and have a well sorted out combo. The parts and knowledge are out there.
