I have been reviewing the post for the cat back systems for 2005 GT. Lots of good reviews. But I fail to see why these mufflers are SO expensive.

Because they're not just mufflers. It's a catback or axle back. More than just weld in's
bc us s197 guys are high rollers.:dunno
You dont need to buy cat-back, just buy the axle-backs. And yes, its mufflers, pipe, and tips....not just mufflers
i paid about 1200$ for my mid pipe and mufflers..

just get axle back's...

Damn, what's on your car again? I've got the Magnaflow Catback plus a offroad x pipe and it didn't cost me anything close to that!

Some of us have catbacks;)
go price stuff for a 2010 camaro. our stuff is cheap lol
even axlebacks are expensive IMO compared to ALOT of other cars exaust systems

typically, the companies charge what the market will bear. they know they can get $600 for 2 mufflers, 2 short pieces of pipe, and 2 tips, so they charge it.

I was just talking with somebody the other day as a matter of fact about how "muffler deletes" on our cars are such a ripoff. I mean c'mon SLP....$360+shipping for 2 small pieces of pipe and 2 tips. I mean REALLY here.
SSS terminators; they were 275 and sound great; made of stainless steel...
Heh, was just going to say something about that. Borlas are expensive, but they're also made the USA. If you want to pinch pennies, SSS outsources their production to contract manufacturers in China and passes along the savings.

I'd rather pay the extra $175, guess that's why my exhaust is still stock. :-/
FRPP Stingers are the same as borla and they are 100 bucks cheaper.

BUT, you get what you pay for guys. I paid 500$ for my axlebacks, and 170 mid pipe. I wish i got a diff mid pipe but Im not spending the money for a mod I already have.

honestly i wouldve got FRPP/Borla's than just my borla's but there is one difference that bugged me.. but most of you probably wouldnt care..

Borla = 4" Tip's
FRPP/Borla = 3.5" Tip's

that and my mid pipe is the only thing i dont regret buying.. i still need to try my delete tubes.. i wanna see what the car sounds like O/R :rockon
4 inches FTW!!

and to answer your question about why are mufflers so expensive?......because they know we will all pay the price.
As stated, you get what you pay for.

Cheaper stuff is usually, not always, but usually, just that: Cheaper.

Made out of thinner material, lower grade stainless, shittier welds....

I paid a pretty penny for my MBRP's, but they promised an extremely high quality muffler. And so far I've put fifty thousand hard driving miles on them, and they look as good as the day I bought them.

Besides, my attitude generally is, you paid how much for the Mustang? If you bought it new, 25-30 thousand dollars? Used, 12, 15, 20, depending when you bought it?

For me, when I do modify, I want to put the best thing available on my Mustang. Not the cheapest. I don't even want middle of the road. I want the best.

And believe me, I'm not that flush with cash. But I am patient. And if I have to wait until my Stang is paid off in a couple of years before I add more serious mods, so be it. But I refuse to cheap out on modifications for my baby.

that is why we build alot of kits at our shop... i can custom build you a sick kit for what you will pay for a kit that is prebuilt... They are expensive because people will pay it!!

+1

the only bad thing i can say about the sss is on mine and ive heard other complaints is that the fitment on them is shitty and mine still arent fitted right on my car. hangers are all effed up
Yikes I paid $400 for my full magnaflow catback. Usually it's 7 or 800, but I killed a few people and got what I feel is a good deal. But I'm going to have to pay between $79 to 160$ for the install :(
