I have a chance to save a lot of money on a tuner, found an SF3 brand new..

now my car is already modded so the 'pre-tunes' on the SF3 will be useless.. but other than that does anyone have any experience with either/both of these tuners, I'm wondering if I need to spend an extra $150+ on the X3 if it is exactly the same as the SF3?

get the x3 as you will be able to do custom tunes with it as opposed to the SF3. If you plan on doing anymore mods to it later on it will be the way to go.

The SF3 holds 3 custom tunes as well..everything I'm finding now says they are baiscally the same but the preloaded stuff..

I'm wondering if I can change tire/wheel/gear ratio etc... myself with the SF3

I didnt know that you can do 3 custom tunes with the SF2. On the website they are saying that you can adjust the axle ratio but it doesnt say anything about holding custom tunes.

For clarification, the SF3 and X3 - Both 100% identical units as far as hardware and functionality go. They both have the ability to hold up to 3 custom tunes at any point and time. They both have built-in user end adjustability. And they both can receive emailed tune updates and future additional custom tunes.

The one and only difference is in addition to the 3 custom tune slots, the SF3 also contains the pre-loaded strategy tunes ("canned tunes").

The X3 does not contain the pre-loaded tunes and can only be used with custom tuning. The X3 is more for dyno tuners because you cannot accidentally load a pre-loaded tune on your heavily modified car and damage the motor.

If you buy an SF3 from us we offer free custom tuning (within what can be done via mail-order so if you are FI you still need to dyno tune) so it is the same price as getting an X3. SCT SF3/X3 Power Flash Mustang Custom Tuner - FREE SHIPPING!

$250? Guessing you are getting it used? Make sure the original owner returns their car to stock or the unit will be locked to that car. And the only way to unlock it is to send the tuner to SCT who will unlock it for $150.

Then you're safe! :D
Just out of curiosity what do additional tunes cost? i.e. when I install my SC I'll have to take it to a shop for the tune, but it would be nice to get one in Email that works well enough I can drive it there with the injectors and MAF installed??

We can do a safe tune to get you to the dyno tuner.

Our pricing is:

If you bought the tuner from us, free tunes for life for the original vehicle it was bought for.

If you didn't buy it from us, or switching the unit to a new vehicle: $50 new Vehicle Setup Fee (Which includes a tune), and then free tunes for life after that.

Free tunes for life includes - if you need an additional tune for octane or driving style, etc., also any product you buy from us that requires a tune update, we will write the new tune for free. It does not cover tune updates for products not purchased from us ($15 Fee for this), or dyno tuning.

that's what I thought.. makes sense to buy it from a dealer and get the tunes included, after all is said and done I wouldn't save much paying for tunes..

Thanks!
