Went to take my girl to a nice restaurant last night and my Cobra would not start. She was so dead that she would not even jump start. So I put her on the battery charger over night! Is this common with the Cobra's? Should I keep a battery tender on her? :screwy:

Not a common thing at all. I would have the battery checked to make sure that is still good and still hold a charge. If it's not then your problem may be your alternator. Look around for things that may be drawing amps when the car is sitting like a light staying on or something like that but before you go into all of that how old is the battery and how cold is it where you live?

My Cobra has a flashing light on the dash from the alarm system, my wife noticed it. Even when not activated the little light still flashes. I think the battery tender I put on her is my only option, unless I remove the alarm. Previous owner had this car alarm installed. I purchased car in September14. So still learning the little things about the car.

what kind of alarm is it? Do you DD the car or you only drive it every once and awhile?

The light you are talking about is the indicator for the status of the alarm. Its also used sometimes to program the alarm via installer as a visual confirmation. Depending on the brand, the light should not be on when the alarm is disarmed unless it is in valet mode which the light would stay on constantly or if a zone has been triggered and it would flash multiple time indicating the zone. With that being said, that little light can draw a little bit at a time. If the car sits for a prolonged period of time it can kill the battery as it is is still drawing current. Its a regular incandescent bulb. When my cobra would sit for a prolonged period of time and I left the alarm on or in valet mode the battery would be dead. Since then I have either left it on the tender or just manually locked it without activating the alarm and havent had a problem since then. Now you can leave the tender on it but the problem with that is if you want to drive it around then the same problem can occur while you are out. Get the problem fixed properly and never have to worry about it again..

My car is not a DD, it is when it is nice out I bring her out to play! As for alarm it is either on or off, but the light still flashes! As far as what kind of system it says clifford by the light bulb. I will have to check with previous owner! If I do have her out, I would think that the charging system would take care of the problem of running down the battery until I get her back onto the tender!

I'm assuming he is talking about the theft light that flashes.

Yeah, it should but that's assuming that both the generator and battery are both good. Have you had them checked? It's free to get them checked and will rule out what to look for after that.

He said it was a Clifford. From my experience when people refer to the light blinking they would just outright say""theft" light still blinking". But no harm no foul

I will get the alternator and battery checked. Good idea! Also found out the alarm system is a clifford. The first owner put it on. Previous owner stated he had had the same problem when leaving her put up for a while!

Yeah, seeing as you drive it a good amount of times I can safely assume that alarm wasn't installed correctly. More than likely having to do with the door triggers. There are two ways to do it and one way can cause those symptoms if the door triggers aren't acting right. Does your dime light ever stay on and you have to shut the door a couple of times to turn it off?

Dude I had to deal with my car not starting everyday for almost a year if i did not turn it on daily. It didn't say i had a draw and my battery and alternator were perfect. One day it was parked in a pitch black garage and my girlfriends dad noticed a small amount of light coming from the trunk. My trunk light would randomly go on and off that's why it didn't show on a draw test. I unplugged it and have never had a problem since.

If you try all the usual things with no luck then check that.

No I have no problem with the dome light not going off. It stays on a little longer when it is dark out. Otherwise works fine.

I will have to check tonight on the trunk light. One question, how do you like your Hurst Shifter?

I like it honestly but I think I'm gonna change it one of these days. I just feel that shifts between gears is to long for my liking but I will say I've never missed a gear with it before.

Are you talking about the Long chrome handled one? I used I have that one and really didn't mind it but felt the same way but never missed a shift. I then changed to MGW and would never look back. Awesome shifter!

A battery tender is never a bad idea if the vehicle sits for any period of time . They are cheap enough and a nice investment to protect your battery .

Yup. My thing is the car sits long enough where I take the battery out:lol. I'd love to take her out more but fall and winter aren't good times to be driving her around.

Is the MGW really that much better of a shifter? Do you have any pictures of it. I am an older guy see, the only name when I was growing up was Hurst. I Love the way the Hurst Chrome looks!

also try checking out your hood light too. i own a 96 and 98 and if you let them sit for more then a week it drains the battery to where they wont crank. all sn95s i know of though have this issue. just old age. id get a draw check on it, it should be dead. the battery is probably old or something.

I've used Hurst the most out of a majority of my previous mustangs and current. I've also used the Tri-ax and in several cars. Out of those that commonly get thrown out there I decided to use an MGW when I found one for a steal. Installed it the same day and took her for a drive and what a night and day difference. I've never missed a shift with my hurst but MGW's centering spring is awesome and third is a breeze. It's smooth yet still has a little bit of notchiness to facilitate the feeling of positive gear engagement. Overall a great product. At first I didn't think that the retail price tag was warranted but I will say that I would probably buy retail if I had to. I'll try and get some pics up if I can. I have it matched with the Ford racing leather shift knob for a stockish look.
