i haven't remove one on my mustang, but my Haynes Manual suggests jack stands and turning the wheel to get better access. that's all the help i can offer.
I bought a mustang performace book and I guess the 1993 (or later foxes) have a starter that only weighs 7 lbs but will work well on older foxes and it takes less energy to crank.
about 2 feet of extensions and a swivel....seriously, i put in my new mini starter and the top bolt was actually EASIER to get out...Go through the front like Darrell said.
