Well I am home from Afghanistan and my first order of business was the installation of the Pypes Violator Exhaust and the C&L Racer / Brenspeed tune. Well I am now disappointed. The Pypes Violator sounds like crap everywhere but at idle and just off the line. So now I am going to have to find a different exhaust with less drone and that sounds good everywhere in the rev range. (Any Suggestions?) I was thinking about Magnaflows or going back to ford for their performance exhaust.

Next was the C&L Racer, another disappointment. That heat sheal is the cheapest POS I have ever seen. it does not fit tight and rattles despite being zip tied and bolted down. So now I am looking at getting the Ford CAI that 07 Stang GT talks so much about, or the JLT. I have already blown so much money on this stuff now to have to re do it is crap.

Any suggestions?

Glad ya made it back in one piece! Where were ya over there? I did 2 tours to Bagram. Do you have stock manifolds? I have l/t's with o/r x-pipe it took me 3 sets of mufflers to get it right. I finally got a set of Flowmasters that came stock on my buddies 07. If you can try and find a car show or meet and listen to different set ups. Soun clips just don't do it. Also you might look at the pipes mid-muffler set up. I have heard they do good with cat less set ups.

Sucks that you are dissappointed with your purchases brah.

i would go with the JLT. great bunch of guys and an even better product
+1 for the JLT plus if you got your tuner from Brenspeed he might cut ya a deal on the CAI and tweak your tune since you bought them both from him. And you can get the tube of the CAI matched to the color of ur car.

Hey dude welcome home!

Look me up for any parts you want, ill take care of you on the price. i can get you the steeda/frpp cai.

Yea was at a little stang get together last saturday night and heard the violaters. I agree when he started his car it sounded good idling but when he took off i didnt like them.

i would recommend flowmasters....i love the sound. the drone is bad if u have stock pipe / cats...but if u get an O/R pipe it dramatically reduces the drone ( i was suprised and very relieved when i cut the cats out ) great sound

Look into the JLT or Steeda CAI and as far as axlebacks....are you looking for that deep sound or race car sound? Ever getting LTs and a new midpipe? Sorry to hear about your disappointments bro, I'll be back from Afghanistan myself in less then a month. Got parts waiting for me too.

Welcome back! Thanks for serving from a former Marine and Desert Shield/Storm vet!

Sucks about the parts! I am about to do all the stuff you are doing in a month or two. I have been patiently waiting for 'the plan' to come together before doing it so the anticpation is killing me. I would be really disappointed too!

Good luck with getting some good stuff, I can't wait to hear what works for you!

BASSANI!!!!!!!! lol j/k, get what you think you would like.........look around for local car shows, cruises, etc............video and audio clips of exhaust are completely different from what they sound like in real life. Sorry you dont like the exhaust you spent so much money on, but you will find something.........my C&L street CAI arrived today, i cant wait to go home and install it!! i hope i dont have any problems out of it though......lol

I know how you feel, my screw ups have cost me plenty, so don't feel bad, It happens to all of us. I went with Corsa Axle Backs and I love them. They were $750.00 from Brenspeed but worth the money. As far as the Cold Air Intakes C and L and JLT are the best ones out there for the S197s. I had a C and L Street intake and loved it. I didn't have any rattling issues or anything. Now I have the Saleen Supercharger on my car, and I love that . The CAI that I an using now is the steeda 90mm that hooks up to the stock inlet. Im pleased with it, and I really didn't like the black plastic zip tie either but the C and L was overall a good kit. Hope this helps. HEY....... WECOME BACK!!!!!!! I've been back for 5 months now with a shitty Quartermaster Company, sometime I think Iraq was better than where I am at now. To everyone who is coming back now WELCOME BACK!!!!!!

Try contacting C&L to get a new heat shield. That one may have been defective because this is the first complaint I have heard about the C&L.

As far as the exhaust goes I say Bassani or Stingers.

You aren't going to get a better cai, so don't waste your money paying for a ford pos one. Get the borla/frpp stingers. I would recommed the mid-mufflers, but it seems that you wouldn't like them before you heard them because they are pypes.

Any suggestions?
Yeah - avoid slamming products you're about to post up in the for-sell forum :D .

On a serious note, I recommend Bassani catted xpipe to Bassani BX axle back for a good exhaust sound. Search youTube for sound clips; you'll see one with a grey GT, it sounds fantastic. In fact, search aroudn youTube until you find a sound you like, just be aware of differences in recording quality and environment. Try to get lots of different videos of the same setup for best results.

For an intake, try the JLT.

Welcome back.
