So I installed my mgw race spec yesterday and it is soooo awesome... except for one little problem.

I can't get into reverse with the center console installed. The shifter hits the shifter boot trim before it has access to reverse. So today I've literally been driving around without the console lol. It seems the shifter needs about 2-3 millimeters before it can engage.

Anyone else had this problem?

Car has 400a interior if that has anything to do with it.

Ideas?

No, but if I were you, I'd give George a call in the morning. Sounds like an alignment issue and he may have run into it before.

Definitely sounds like a miss-alignment. Which is weird, especially for a company like MGW who typically never has issues.

he said they've never had this problem before. pretty much the only idea he had was to loosen the 4 crossmember bolts and light pry the tranny to the passenger side and tighten again because sometimes it'll shift towards the drivers side when lowered. guess i'll give that a shot next time i go home and see what happens

yup reverse lockout is fine. the shifter is hitting the shift boot trim blocking me from engaging reverse

Im dont like the answer he gave you... I see that ur in AL, perhaps you want to drive to their facility in Augusta and have them install it for free... Then hit the beach? lol. I wouldnt even install it if I had that issue.

it's already in the car. i installed it this past weekend. I'll probably give it a shot soon because home is a lot closer from here than augusta and all i need to clear is maybe 1/4".

I hear ya, that sucks tho. This is the first MGW issue I've heard of. Good luck

this is definitely odd, my race spec (the first version) touches the side of the console, but does not prevent me from getting into reverse

lowered the tranny yesterday and re positioned then tightened which seemed to have fixed the problem. shifter his the trim but I'm able to nudge it in. also put in some fresh mtg which made things that much better

Glad you got it sorted out, is it as amazing as everyone says it is? lol

yeah its pretty awesome lol. you can bang gears sooooooo much better. when the tranny is warm it's smooth as silk but i still feel some notch-ness from time to time.

speaking of which, is there a 100% sure fire way to get rid of all the notchy-ness? i was hoping the mgw would but there's still a little left. the only mod I lack shifting/feel wise is a clutch.

already has mtg in her

I was going to recommend loosening the trans mount and possible the motor mounts to nudge it over a hair but you already got it. With that shifter and good fluid there isn't really much to do to make it better. MT-82 problems :(
