Is it under warranty? If so...

Blow it up...

Sent from AutoGuide.com Free App
Well it is but everyone that works with me knows my car is tuned. I'm sure they would help me out and try their best to get it fixed under warranty and Ford would have to prove that it is the tune that is the cause blah blah blah. I just don't want to have to go through all the warranty bs.

You've got something else going that I doubt breathers will solve. With what you're running, you shouldn't be consuming nearly that much.

Are you engine braking a lot?
Whose tune?

That's what I was thinking too, which is why I wanted some more opinions.

I don't really engine break much cause most of the time my drives are at a constant speed and I only slow down for speed limits but I do occasionally get on the backroads and let her eat but that's not an everyday ordeal.

The tune on the car is the sct canned tune that comes on the x4. I've only been running it for about 3,000 miles and my car was consuming quite a bit of oil before then so I don't think it's a tune issue. I will be ordering a Lund tune here in the next few days when they go on sale though.

It's definitely sounds like abnormal consumption to me.

Okay guys, I have an issue and I just wanted all your opinions before I say something to my boss Friday. Here's a little background info about the situation:

My car (2012 GT) has been consuming oil like crazy here lately. Anyways, I checked my oil yesterday before driving to Richmond and the oil was at the bottom hole on the dipstick and I just changed it 3,000 miles ago! I run Amsoil Signature Series 5W-30 and have been for about 20,000 miles now. Haven't noticed any smoke from the exhaust or anything like that but it has to be burning it because I have no leaks. The car does have a tune on it but the rev limiter is set to stock so I haven't been spinning it to the moon.

I work at my local dealership and I've already looked up the oil consumption spec and that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Ford states that the motor holds 8qts of oil (which is true). The recommended change interval if using Motorcraft 5W-20 is 10,000 miles (my dealer recommends every 5). Ford also states that specification for oil consumption is 1qt of oil every 1,000 miles of driving. So if you follow the recommended change interval (10,000) and you burn 1qt of oil every 1,000 miles you would then burn 10qts between oil changes. (10,000/1,000=10) So if you burn 10qts of oil and your motor only holds 8 that would leave you with -2qts of oil and metal in your oil pan. (8-10=-2)

My question to you guys here is this: Should I install breathers on my valve covers and see if my oil consumption issue gets any better, or should I just keep an eye on it and say something to my boss Friday when I get back to work and get it in for some testing?

I just want some other opinions just to see what you all think. Thanks guys!
This isnt that uncommon with these cars. My car when its cruising barely consumes any, i drove it to FL and back and some there, about 900-1000 miles in a week or so and the level barely moved, but ive seen it lose considerably more when im hooning around.

I am running breathers and mine consumes some, keep in mind pre 2013 cars have piston oil squirters too, which i think also doesnt help.

I drive my car like 5-6k miles a year, so it doesnt bother me much lol. Mine isnt outside of the "normal" consumption rate and its well below it its driven normally. lol

Thanks for the input. I knew it was a pretty common thing for these to consume some oil but mine just seemed too extreme.

I agree. I was looking through the workshop manual last night and its possible I have a PCV issue. I'm going to check both valves when I get home tomorrow. I would pull them out tonight but I have no tools with me and I'm in Richmond for work. I'll keep you guys updated and see what else I can find out.

You don't need tools to pull the PCV, it just turns out by hand. Check your passenger side PCV line and see just how much oil is in it. If it's a lot consider getting a PCV Valve from an Ecoboost F150 and a catch can.

Check the drivers side line as well. It should be dry.

If you were burning THAT much oil through the pcv you should be noticing blue smoke on hard acceleration.

Cool deal, I'll do that in a little while. What's so special about the ecoboost pcv valve?

ordered a bottle of touchup paint and clear coat to get rid of this nasty road rash. hope everything works. lol

Doesn't vent as freely, should keep some vapor out. Not all but some is better than none.

My 6 pot 15 Brembo setup is for sale, along with the one remaining 4 pot GT500 RH caliper.
And BMR driveshaft safety loop.

Cool deal, thanks for the info. I had planned on checking my pcv valves at work today but they had me working on a recall that takes all day to do and I didn't have time.

I did however order my new rear sway bar and end links since my current end links in the rear are bad. Went with the boss 302 sway bar and it comes with end links. Funny thing though, if I would've bought just 2 GT links it would've cost about $60 but if you order the whole boss sway bar (which comes with new end links) it only costs about $70 (with employee pricing of course).

I emailed a BMR rep a while back and got some info on their sway bars and they said their SB023 bar is softer than the OEM GT bar and you can save money and get the boss 302 sway bar. Thanks to BMR for being straight up guys about that and not just trying to push their products! I really appreciated that and will definitely be buying more parts from them in the future.

Man i havent been on the forum much. But i have been driving my car more. Dating a new girl so you know the Stagarang is getting cruised around it hahaha.

I did just get my Amsoil Dif fluid and Sliplok friction modifier in the other day, now all ill need is the new dif cover and i can install the torque arm.

Yea i wouldnt worry too too much. I personally think part of the reason they removed the oil piston squirters and changed piston skirt coatings has something to do with the consumption these cars have.

It freaked me out at first but honestly, i change my oil once every 10-12 months and during that ENTIRE year it probably consumes 1 quart or so im guessing lol, over the course of 5-6k miles...

Yeah I know a little is normal but I had only been 3k and I had consumed almost a whole quart. I'm going to look into it over the weekend and see if my pcv valves are functioning properly. Congrats on the new girlfriend btw, be prepared to drive the stang a lot more lol.

My car consumes around a quart every change as well. And we all know how I drive it, so it's to be expected lol. I just keep a close eye on it. I knew from the get-go that Coyote's consumed a lot of oil, but like Modded said, at first I was like "something is wrong" hahaha.

My oil is changed every 3k.

Yeah maybe I'm just over reacting. I'm just going to start keeping a closer eye on it and making sure it's right. I think I'm going to send in my next oil change for an analysis.

we all know you only drive it once a week to church and don't go above 45mph :shiftyeyes
