Hi everyone, I bought a 2003 mach 1 back in June and since then I've been trying to figure out what this rattle noise is.

So when it's under light throttle like when holding speed around 2k rpm I hear a strange tick/rattle. As soon as I gibe it more gas to accelerate or drop below 2k rpm it goes away. It sounds like it's in the engine bay but I can't find it because it only happens while in gear. I've taken it to a ford dealer and they said it was the clutch and T.O. bearing but after replacing those it persists. I've searched the internet for similar issues but no luck. Hoping someone here has any ideas.

Thanks for any info

Use a long screwdriver (put your ear up to it) or buy an automotive stethoscope and listen to different parts of the engine. Block, front cover, each valve cover/head, etc. This should help you narrow it down to where it is. Rev the engine with your other hand to see if it goes away while listening.

It’s not detrimental, if it is a lash adjuster. You can have them replaced which isn’t too big of a deal but remember you have 32 of them. If you want to be 100% certain, pull the valve cover, pull them, and check to see if they spring back after compressing them in a pair of vice grips.

If you’re going that far check the valve guides as they sometimes will start to move.

Thanks. Yeah I found I can get 32 trick flow adjusters for around 300 bucks. That's not bad, I'll try to get it into a shop soon now that I at least have an idea of what it could be. Never goin to a dealership again. They managed to give my exhaust a rattle and mess up the anti theft while they put the clutch in and couldn't even diagnose the original problem.
