i took apart the mgw, is their a specific way to adjust it. do i even need the shift stops. every time i shift to 3 it will stop in the middle then go to 3rd, no sounds just slow from 2-3. 99 cobra, t45 transmission

uhh, not sure about the T45 but the 3650 has internal stops. rendering the mgw stops useless. If the T45 is the same way then you can remove them. But check with someone else before you take my word for it.

T-45 has NO stops so you will want to use them with that trans. One of the main reasons people recommend these shifters is for that reason. Lack of positive stops means you can jack up your trans if the shifter is pulled or pushed too hard. Shifter is way cheaper.

so if it doesnt use shift stops then the shifter shouldnt feel right? every time i pull the shift stop stud out more, it lets me shift into 3rd faster i just havent taken all the way out

so do you know why it wont work right

Just has to be setup properly. You want the stops to activate before the shifter presses too hard against the trans. I'd say with the stops removed, pull the shifter into gear and gently back until it wont go any further, then adjust the stops about 1-3mm shorter.

Good Luck

I know for my tri-ax, they're way for adjusting the stops was to put the trans into 3rd, then screw the stop in until it was just barely touching the shifter. This way, you push it all the way into gear, but no further EVER, which is kinda the whole point for shift stops.

I have munched a T45 do to lack of shift stops - I overpulled 2nd gear, dropped the clutch, and broke a shift fork, leaving it stuck in 2nd gear. Needless to say, the next mod I got was my tri-ax!

Along the same lines, if you still have the factory clutch quadrant, I highly recommend replacing it with an aluminum one of your choice. The plastic ones, along with getting brittle with age, can mal-adjust themselves to a point where the clutch isn't totally disengaged even with the pedal to the floor. An aluminum quadrant with an external adjuster gets rid of both of those problems.
