I currently have a 93 lx 4cyl NA that i want to do the TC swap. I was wondering about the computer part if I use the Mega Squirt or similiar product, do i still have to do the SVO or TC computer swap or are these products replacements for the ECU. I am pretty clueless when it comes to ECU's and Tuning. I appreciate all and any assistance. Thanks

Well, I've been seriously concidering doing the swap for a while now, but over the weekend I decided 100% a 2.3T is going in my stang. It's a little over my head (okay, a lot over my head), but the deciding factor was a buddy of mine (apprentice mechanic) said he'd help me out for a 60 of crown. I'm having a lot of trouble finding a donor turbocoupe, so as soon as I can find one the swap will be underway. I plan on swapping the engine, transmission, and rear end. The Turbocoupe's had an 8.8 with disc brakes which I deffinately want, but is it a different bolt pattern? Will I have to use the rims from the turbocoupe? Also, did the turbocoupe's have bigger front disc brakes? Worth swapping them in? Anything you guys can think of that will cause problems with the rear end swap? Brake lines perhaps? Anything else I'd want from the turbocoupe before I junk it afterwards? Trying to get everything planned out now, so as soon as I find a donor car I know exactly what I need to do.

Tell me how much of a pain in the ass it would be to swap outmy 4.6 in my 98GT for a 2.3T??
A major one if you need to pass a smog check since there is no OBD-II version of the 2.3 T. I haven't seen this done before, but if it's a race car that doesn't have top pass smog, it shouldn't be any different from putting it in a Fox body.

The Megasquirt is its own computer and replaces the factory ECU completely.

Hey Turbo great post.. I am in the process of doing this myself right now got most of it done except a few minor things. I am doing the LA3 swap ryt now and was wondering if you have done it before so I can create a step-by-step kind of like Stingers, but put in some pics of the process if you are kind of slow like me.. haha

There are no emissions or anything to the sort in TN, so this isnt a problem..

love these motors...i've owned two turbo coupes..still have a motor laying around actually. But these motors are honestly damn near indestructable. the LA3 computer is a better computer for these cars..so make sure thats the one your getting. But i remember with mine the motors never missed a beat. I had the stock IHI turbo, but had got around the stock restrictions the computer placed, basically allowing the turbo to spool as much as possible, i had an after market boost gauge, the car consistantly ran on about 22-24 PSI with no problems...only thing i ever had to correct was gap the plugs smaller because it was blowing out the spark at full boost...and when your boosting that much invest in hose clamps because i can't tell you how many times i blew hoses off the intercooler or turbo from boosting alot more than it was intended for lol

glad i could help haha

as long as you keep it out of boost they get 22-26 mpg....but if you are constantly spooling the turbo, i promise you can watch the gas gauge go down.
