Well, I've wanted a turbo ever since I got my car and started reading about Stangs! lol. OK, so my vo-tech teacher has the turbo for sale, brand new for $400, but Its just the turbo, nothing else, I've been told it cost about $600, he said its perfect for a v6. he believes it to be a 60mm or 63mm. He got it in a trade and is just trying to get his money out of it, I think it will be a good deal, please let me know if its not, I'm planning on purchasing it tomorrow!!! If anyone has a list of all the parts i'll need, it will be much appreciated :D :D :D

From what I've read, I will need:
Wastegate
BOV
Headers and exhaust dump (kinda obvious, lol)
Intercooler (I've heard its not needed, but very advised)
Oil feed/drain lines
Boost gauge

Plus will i need to relocate my abs, and extend my maf?
I've read something about an Egr block of plate?

I'm just excited that I will have a turbo on the way, I can't wait!!!
I planned on other mods first, but I don't guess I really need them, my car is bone stock performance wise, but as long as I keep the boost low, like 5-6psi, I should be fine, correct? Any other Mods to help the turbo would be nice. I wouldn't mind looking into an 8.8 with gears, heard 3.55 go well with turbocharged auto, but also heard that 3.73's are good too.

Thanks for any help guys!

WAIT FOR ITSCHRISTORRES TO POP ON!

no offense but to me ^that guy knows his **** on turbos, i believe he would be the best person to help you on that, or our moderator Johnson, hes really knowledgeable about that to.

*edit*
Nice color stang!

i wouldnt touch it if i were you... its not as easy as buying a turbo and slapping it on... if it is a DD it will be down for a pretty good amount of time unless you REALLY know what you are doing... you have to tune it... and youll need to first know more specs on that turbo... there is much more that goes into it then someone saying "its perfect"... you need to look at what power you want and what the compressor map is... if the car is not made for a turbo then it is going to be a little tedious to put one on it... (much harder then a blower because of exhaust)...

what turbo is it?
where are u gettin the piping for the system?
you do know u will need a dyno tune for it?

parts ur gonna need...if i missed anything people add on...
Wastegate and wastegate spring of whatever boost you want to run
BOV
Headers and exhaust dump
Intercooler (yes you will need to get this)
Oil feed/drain lines
Boost gauge
Wideband A/F gauge (a good idea to have one)
new MAF
piping for rest of system
egr delete unless u wanna fix it up to work with the turbo...easier to just get rid of it

might be more...im just too tired today to think

^WAKE UP WE DEPEND ON YOU DAMNIT!!!
j/k

try going to TMA turbo and reading the list of their complete turbo sets, usually they tell you everything it includes, or google "checklist for complete turbo setup"

bigger fuel injectors?
better fuel pump?

FYI:
I would rather say I had the rest of the kit & no turbo...
than saying I had a turbo but not the rest of the kit...

Turbos can be gotten cheap, unless you start getting into something like the turbonetics GTK series or something along those lines.

+1 the rest of the kit is gonna be a bitch to get, but i have seen some piping being sold on 3.8mustang at one point...dont know if its still for sale or not

If you are ridding yourself of your stock assembly completely, I will gladly take it off your hands! PM me and let me know. Thanks.

i knew i had forgot stuff...yes and yes

and also permanently he will have to run higher octane gas...so ya need to consider that in costs too

Thanks for all the information everyone, it is greatly appreciated. I realize that it will take a while for the install, I read about Johnson's when he did his. He has helped me out quite a bit with plans for my car, thank you. As for the piping, that was my biggest concern at the time, but the person I'm buying from, whom I trust, says that he knows someone who will probably fab something up for me, and if not, then he can find someone else. The higher octane gas was something I didn't think about, but shouldn't be a problem. just wondering though, would 90 be fine, or should I go with 93? If anyone can give me a general estimate of the cost for everything Johnson listed, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm not asking anyone to look stuff up, just an average/estimate. This will be a slow build, as I will buy things as I get the money, but the turbo will be a start and a great incentive to keep at it. Btw, I was a little dissapointed that Chris didn't show up, but I am very thankful for the responses I got. I plan on meeting to buy it tonight around 8-9p.m. central. I will post pics if my computer will let me later, lol.

im not sure if u HAVE to run 93 but i do. as far as pricing the stuff ill look it up in a lil while and get ya some estimates...

If you HAVE to get somebody to fab up stuff for you its going to get EXPENSIVE. The people who DYI kits can normally weld and everything else they need to do.

So You prob gonna be around 2-3k at least?

Fuel injectors
Fuel pump
intercooler
turbo
tuning
custom made hot pipes
custom made cold side
Whatever your gonna do for header/manifolds

ok here ya go...prices could be off in some places, but its a general idea of what ur workin with

turbo - u have it ($600)
bov - $60-$250 (depends on what u get)
wastegate $200-$230
wastegate spring $40-$80
fuel pump 120-140
42lb injectors around $300
wideband $400
braided hose lines (not sure prolly around $200 for lines and fittings)
intercooler around $100
boost gauge $30-$80
maf $230-$300
egr delete (ask chris i think he makes em)
then ur headers which someone would also have to fabricate, they can use ur stockers but that puts ur car down while they build it.
then theres the issue of ur piping...that can get expensive if someone is building it for you depending on where it is that could range anywhere from $500 - $1000 on its own if not more

if ya manage to get all that together and on, then u have to get it dyno tuned which is can run ya around $400

ur also gonna prolly want at least a tlok too other wise every time u hit boost ur gonna be burnin the **** out of ur one tire...hell i burn my two in boost sometimes so i kno it would def. smoke one all the time. this would also be a good time to get gears too with the tlok so u only have to pay the install price once....i just stuck with my stock gearing with tlok and it has worked fine so far

reps are always appreciated :D

Thanks for all this information guys. I did buy the turbo last night and I'm very excited about it and looking forward to the build. :D If I can't get a good price on the exhaust and intake pipes, then maybe I can fab my own? I have a shop to work in with plenty of tools, and a welder, I just don't know how to weld. Maybe I'll look around for some articles, (google rocks! lol) but my biggest concern with my own fabbing was the bends, can i just buy pipes that would already be bent, and just order the ones I need and weld them together? as for the tlok, I think I might just look around for an 8.8 at a junk yard and maybe get some gears for it.

Oh, as for more info about the turbo, it says NB 085 A/R 68

I was going to say 91 because its easier to find lol. But ya 93 is better
93 it is, lol. I'll have to start looking to see what stations sell it, lol.

damn...thats a hefty shopping list:D
Indeed! but it will all be worth it in the end, By all means, I can't afford everything now, but I'll be saving every spare penny I can for this build. :yes

It's gonna cost you a close total of about $4000 to purchase everything needed excluding tuning and software, and i would do something higher the 42lb injector's that way you have room to grow instead of wanting to boost the pressure up but end up leaning out because there isnt enough fuel, try to find some low imp. injector's, you can purchase those off the vendor's on turbomustangs.com

as well for the turbo setup if your building your own kit get out your drawing board and start mapping out how you want to go about doing this, also do a few mock up's before you decide to just go and start welding sit together, that's just making thing's harder, take your time with it.
