So i have a full bolt on Gt but bone stock suspension and i dont know a whole lot about it. I am ordering sub frame connectors as i have heard there a must and def. help stiffen the car up... I dont go to the track but maybe 2 or 3 times a month so basically its just a street car and dont think i need full suspension. I want to stiffen the car up though, What other suspension mods would you reccomend? Thanks

You could get some lowering springs. If so there's a world of them to choose from pending on how far you wanna drop her.

If you don't want to spend a boat load for new shocks, you can try to find some 03/04 Cobra Bilsteins. You can usually find people selling them. They are a great upgrade. I also went with H&R for springs. I went with the Race Springs instead of the SS.

Do the IRS shocks work for a straight axle setup? I thought the IRS used struts, not shocks.

I'm all for Bilsteins, but I'd double check that the Cobra units interchange.

For the OP:
Start with full-length subframe connectors. Depending on how much the springs you got dropped the car, get shocks to match; stock shocks will reasonably handle a 1" drop, but much more than that and you're putting your shocks on borrowed time.

I suggest against a strut-tower brace unless you have oversteer problems, and anyone that suggests a rear shock tower brace doesn't know what they're talking about.

One thing you could do is go to Maximum Motorsports, and get their most basic grip package. It comes with springs, shocks/struts, swaybars, and some bushings. As it sounds like you already have springs, you can talk to them, and they'll take the springs out and credit the difference, or might even let you swap springs for SFCs. They'll also know the right shocks to match the springs you already have.

Good luck with it!

^I know the fronts struts are interchangeable...but I agree on the rears. Maximum Motorsports know if you ask them or if somebody could clarify on here.

Like you guys said I dont think the rears would work due to a totally different rear end design. For the rear shocks im using some lakewood 50/50s and so far so good. Im not going to sit here and go crazy praising them though as I havent tried any others but for only $100 they seem like a nice deal.

^ :lol can't pass up good deals

^ Aftermarket springs have a noticeable feel over stock. How far would you like to drop it?

Springs hold the weight of the car, struts control body motion. You can drive a car without struts (not safe btw and don't ask why i know) but your car will not go anywhere without springs. Suspension is all about what you want and what you want to pay. (I guess everything is actually) For the price, I would pick up a set of used coilovers if you can swing it. Better ride/handling vs the separated strut/coil design, and they are extremely versatile as far as height and even valving (externally adjustable). I have coilovers all the way around that I picked up pretty cheap, and now I can add on a torque arm/panhard bar and some LCA's when I get the money. Since they are adjustable I can raise and lower and control stiffness of the strut. Def the best way to go, If not, use your lowering springs with the Cobra spec bilsteins for the front and get coilovers for the rear. The suspension on our cars is garbage, anything you do will be an improvement. But remember, stiffer is not always better haha, the subframes BTW are a great place to start.

yeah rear control arms for sure. Lowers will help the most, for and application like yours a basic set up would be fine and def help out. The stock control arms are garbage and torque and flex under hard launching. Getting a non adjustable set from MM, steeda or even UPR will show a nice improvement. You don't need to go with adjustable unless your really that hardcore about drag racing. For a weekend warrior solids are fine.
