Are you sure ? From Speedometer Recalibration Gears - '79-'98 Ford Mustang

Instructions: Note transmission type, model and resulting drive gear. Cross reference with your rear-end gear ratio to find the correct "recalibration" gear for your application.

1983-1989 T-5 OEM
Pre 1993 T-5 Aftermarket
1996-1998 Cobra T-45 OEM

Manual Transmissions with 8 Tooth Drive Gear

Looks like what AM is hooking into.
Speed Calibrator - SpeedCal at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

Couldn't get an image.

This works on Mustangs with both Computer Controlled Electronic Gauges and Non-Computer Controlled Electronic Gauges (1994-2004 Mustangs).
I know we think AM is wrong but does anyone know for sure ?

No idea...that's why I was second guessing myself w/ the speedo gear.

Yeah, I think on Monday I'll run over to my friendly Ford Dealer and run this info past them. Try to pick their tech's brain.

Zombies like brains.

I'm almost positive the only thing you can do is install the physical gear and you can't use the electronic.

this thread is full of mis information... 96-98 use a gear driven VSS. and you can just change the gear if you want to be inaccurate....

or you can buy a speed cal... it requires some wiring (5 minutes worth) and plugs in. i have it in my 96 and it works well...

SO yes you can use Electronic Speed Cal to change the speedometer... the speed cal changes the resistance being sent frm the VSS to the speedometer to correct it....

99+ you can use a hand held, but not for 96-98s

I'm glad you posted this. I was reading through the whole thread waiting for someone to correct it. The Speedcal definitely works. Mine did until it shorted out or something. I haven't figured that out yet...but I will.

^ yeah i never did the gears in my GT. Bought the car with em in so :dunno

Sorry guys

You are the man MustangMatt. Reps all the way.

I'm ordering my gears this week. Now I find out I have 3.27's stock, I'm not sure 3.73's are gonna do it for me.:D

So... the gear won't work? It will save me alot of money if it does, but if not i'll order the electronic one from AmericanMuscle.
the gear will work, but it will be off 1-3mph
