yea my buddy has that same one its really nice. prolly by far the best one i have seen. but yea a little bit out of my price range

I just opened a thread on a radar detector in the clubhouse :( I currently have a cobra, and it gets the job done but isn't as strong now that it's 2 years old, lookin for an upgrade. I was recommended the escort 9500ix, but wanted to look at something that would also do radar/laser scrambling. Rocky mountain radars has a couple units that match that description for under 300, but I haven't heard many reviews, or even heard the name before today. There's always the Valentine, but that's pretty pricey as well. I'm just now checkin up on any new cobra toys that have come out.

Nevermind on that rocky mountain radar, read some of the reviews/comparisons and it's junk. Best bet for an economical radar detector is a cobra, I love mine and it was 150 new. If you want something serious, look into the BEL stuff, Valentine one, or the aforementioned escort.

my cobra hasn't let me down yet its the top of the line cobra got it for like 150 and its worked fine...

Cobra, valentine one and escort are the work horses.

I personally feel no need to have one as I generally pick and choose my spots carefully for excessive speed. We get a pretty decent leeway here in terms of what the police deem as speeding. Generally get away with 10-15 over on the freeway with non issue.

After some looking, I really like the Bel GX65 similar features as the escort but with a lot of the strength of a valentine. Seen pretty good reviews as well. Any one else with some real world experience with them?

I have never owned a radar, but if I get a job within the next week or so, I might be getting one soon. A radar is something you do not want to cheap out on...the escorts and valentine are good units

i love my V1. got it from ebay for a little less than a new one. you can upgrade them when valentine comes out with upgrades also without having to go out and buy a new unit. you can also tell if the used one you are buying needs an upgrade and how much it will cost you if it needs one. all you need is the serial number off of the unit and go to their website.

i'll suggest this one to everyone that ever asks. i love it

valentine V1 are by far the best!
but they are big and ugly! My detectors have saved me too many times to count! They paid for themselves 10x over. I still got 2 tickets from the instant on, but thats over 14 years of speeding.

Just remember that typically the more you spend the less the damn thing will beep when there is no cop. I've gone thru a bunch of them and the cheap ones for <$150 suck and beep all the damn time. I have a whistler in my mustang, but the passport is slightly better, just not remote mountable.

I get a lot of false alarms with my cobra, didn't use to, but it's gettin pretty old now. One of the important features I noticed on that GX65 was it's ability to learn and cancel out those repeats similar to the passport.
