I have only gotten hit once and I know he wasn't aiming at me cause I there were a few cars between us when it hit. I don't know if the lasers have spread or possibly reflection but it couldn't have been aimed directly at me. Didn't matter cause I knew the area (Ohio I-90)was bad and was going the speed limit in the slow lane. The detector went off a ways before I could even see him and plenty of time for me to slow down if I was speeding (maybe). Not that it would have helped if it was an empty road and I was speeding but in traffic it might pick them up early.
Last time I got pulled over (first time in my stang) coming home from Dallas to Austin down I35, I was going about 85 with only 18 wheeler between me and the cop. She told me that she was reading both of us at the same time and could see via her radar me going that speed while he was going 65. I slowed down and pulled up right behind him before I passed her and she still got me. Luckily defensive driving will keep it off my record.

My radar detector has been acting up i think. Every time i drive through the shitty part of phoenix (and im not kidding) the Spectre alert goes off then Ku goes off. I dont know what in the hell its picking up but it pisses me off. I need a new one anyway since the sounds out.

unfortunately none of them can, unless you upgrade to some expensive laser scrambler system. Kind of pointless out here though, cops still haven't really switched over to laser much at all. Only been hit by 1 in 2 years.
Bad thing bout jammers is the cops will know you have it and they are illegal, so your still screwed.

The difference between the two stories is there were multiple cars in the one you quoted. The officer has to be certain it was you that was speeding. If it is only you and an 18 wheeler it's probably more obvious you were the one speeding.

I just opened a thread on a radar detector in the clubhouse :( I currently have a cobra, and it gets the job done but isn't as strong now that it's 2 years old, lookin for an upgrade. I was recommended the escort 9500ix, but wanted to look at something that would also do radar/laser scrambling. Rocky mountain radars has a couple units that match that description for under 300, but I haven't heard many reviews, or even heard the name before today. There's always the Valentine, but that's pretty pricey as well. I'm just now checkin up on any new cobra toys that have come out.

Nevermind on that rocky mountain radar, read some of the reviews/comparisons and it's junk. Best bet for an economical radar detector is a cobra, I love mine and it was 150 new. If you want something serious, look into the BEL stuff, Valentine one, or the aforementioned escort.

I actually have owned a Rocky Mountain for over a year now. It MSRP'ed at like $100 something but got it for $30. IT has never failed me once. Saved my ass many times! IT doesnt have any special features to it like keeping things in memory but it gets the job done.

then again, I don't really speed way too over the limit.. if anything 15mph over but if you are always on the pedal, then most likely I'd invest in an Escort. Out of my budget though =P

Ive got a cobra and its bad ass

its the top of the line cobra and the thing goes wild when any cops are near by. it goes off with photo radar so it tells u when the light is going to turn red to! it has always warned me way before i've even seen the cops!

i have a escort 9500i.. and I love it. there has not been one instance where it went off to late. It always alerts before I can even see the cop. Some times I get 1.5/2.5 mile warning. Great RD. The Valentine 1 is also very good... after that the next good ones are Beltronics STI,,bel gx65,Escort 8500 x50,Bel v995. Now for laser jamming and radar detecting. The Escort 9500ci is a remote mount RD that mounts laser jammers on the front and back of the car. And also uses these to detect radar and does a VERY good job at it.

Oh and you cannot jam/scramble radar gun readings just to let you know. Best defense is a good radar detector that offers ample warning for you to slow down. anything made by cobra is not going to perform near as good as the above listed. Cobra is almost blind to 35.5 KA which is used alot by Law enforcement officers. Which is why I will never use a cobra.

no radar detector is going to save you every time... planes, timing marks, pacing, instant lazar... and now in Kansas we have High Def cameras on some of the highways that can track a car between cameras and even see who the driver is... Big Brother is here my friends!!!!
