First off I would like to thank all of you here. I have read as many posts as I could and changed my thinking onwhat mods to get.

I ordered the 2005+ Mustang V6 Steeda Cold Air Intake and SCT SF3 Combo from American Muscle this weekend and I cant wait!

Any ideas as to what gains I will get in the real world?

Im going with a 91 octane performance tune.

Thanks all!

I don't know much about the Steeda CAI but with that and a tune you should notice a good difference. Let us know how that Steeda intake works out, don't think I've seen a review on this forum for that.

not to sure on the "good difference" but you should hear a cool little sound. anyways enjoy it while you can cause you just got addicted to modding... its harder to quit modding than quitting cigarettes.

if my psychic abilities prove me right you're going to be at 200rwhp and 230-50 rwtq. intake exhaust tune are the cheapes horsepower:dollar mods you're gonna get. Gratz.

thats a little over estimation, but you will notice gains. and you can hear it too and it's cool sounding. i picked up about 3 mpg i think. but i have gears now and im averaging about 19/20 mpg, mostly city, so you will be better than that. you should get udp's next... unless you have the money for gears and tlok.

enjoy

I have done a lot of study on UDP's in various forums. UPD is a way to go for sure, but the amount of labor to get one in looks intimaditing.

Anyone have a first hand account of a V6 UDP install?. I read a great V8 right up on another forum.

UDP's are good for certain things ... i did not get UDP's because i am running alot of power through my subs.

udp gains are great and fairly easy to install. but not if you love your A/C and your subs.. lol and i love both :D
I live in Az, can't do without the AC but no plans for an excessive stereo here. As long as the AC will still put out cold air I'm good.

Steeda CAI and SCT x3 initial reaction after install.

I have a business trip tomorrow and will be in the car 12 hours so I should have a good idea of how the car performs...

Image

The Car:
2007 4.0 Satin Silver coupe
8000 miles
No Mods other than what I am talkign about here
91 Octane - Since my second fill up I have ran nothing but

26 MPG average, mixed city and hwy driving

Friday night I put on the CAI and used the SCT flash programer combo I got from American Muscle. Intake was literly on in 10 minutes and flashing took 5.

I wanted to only do one mod at a time so I could test any gains felt as I added each mod. Steeda says their CAI has to be used on a car that has been flashed. So I had to do both at once.

Initial thoughts on the Steeda CAI:
Filter - Well built, life time filter. Needs to be oiled.
MAP housing - Quality machined and polished aluminum billet. Beveled ends for great airflow.
CAI "Box" - Laser cut stainless steel with stainless fastners. Fit inside engine bay was good. My only gripe is the rubber molding that goes agound the edjes to seal it off, it looked more like overglorified weather stripping. The fit was a bit sloppy but I can feel the box get pushed down a little but the hood when I close it so i belive the seal is good.

Overal look - beautiful and shiney. Filter blue color contracts nicely stainless box and silver paint of the body.

Note that i knocked the rubber seal loose from one side. I can see that this mostly is to protect you from the sharp edges of the box.

Performance gains - I have no dyno so the report is more anecdotal...
Having 29 years of experience on stick shifts, I know how to take off fast without spinning my wheels. I now need to relearn my power profile on this car.
My first time on an empty street with the mods and 91 pump gas was fun. I was able to bark both tires without as much effort. The exaust sound was a bit more aggressive, almost like I had a good muffler, but not guite like dual exhast.
I took my best friend for a short ride the next day and he could notice a difference in acceleration from the passenger seat.

After my road trip tomorrow I will give a report on hwy millage and overal driveability.

with UDP's i believe they will be a little weaker.
you should see ne adverse side effects with UDP. if you are afraid of having less power to your sups, then overdrive your alternator pulley. i have spoken with justin at vmptuning and he said that the overdrive alternator pulley isnt needed even with a large stereo system.... if you want the extra accelleration, and are afraid of losing wattage from the alternator then just order the set that comes with the OD pulley

with my udp's, i notice the headlights dim and the AC output decrease while stopped and idling. but as soon as the rpms get to almost 1000, it's all normal. i decreased the idle rpm's to as low as possible with my x3.

congrats on the cai install and 91 tune. im running the 93oct tune and loving it. 1 thing about your write up today; you said that you barked both tires on take off, but with the stock open differentials, only the back right tire gets the power. with t-lok (limited slip differential) both back tires will get the power.

tlok and gear would be a good mod to have in your future. you will lose some mpg's, unless you drive like granny and keep it under 2k rpm's, but the gains in speed are awesome
