A SRT-4 with a turbo and intercooler basically matches a stock 2v GT in speed. How is it going to beat a GT if the GT puts a turbo in it? (Same mods) It's not going to even come close.


Exactly. Mod for Mod an SRT isn't going to pull a GT. No way, no how.
why not? you can upgrade to a .48 trim turbo and get a little over 410 to the wheels on an srt-4.

Again you have more displacement and HP to start with before the boost. You'll have more to end with after. If you do all the mods the SRT does, the Mustang will still be ahead because of this. I would say that motor without the turbo is probably good for 160-170 hp TOPS. The DOHC in the 99 R/T which was just a 2.0 had 150. It did the quarter in 15.9/16.1 seconds And since the SRT is heavier than the 99 R/T... it HAS to have boost to get anywhere near the Mustang. The mustang simply has more torque and HP to start with. If they were both modded similarly, the Mustang would always be on top because of that.

im playing the semantics game but you bought a turbo so i went out and bought one and put it on now we're somewhat even again.

nobody is speaking in here guy, and your my 2v would have have killed your ladybug car, im gonna say it one more time maybe you already know this because your posting in here, GT>neon, even though the neon usually pulls the gt with basic bolt-ons for each car.

Again that isn't true. Unless you aren't counting the turbo in the SRT as being a bolt on. Or you are saying that the Mustang has to stay N/A. Once the stang leaves the N/A field, the SRT will be even further behind.

AHahahahahaha , who Photoshopped that? That is brilliant. And this coming from someone that owns a 99 Neon R/T. Fun cars, but they aren't Mustang level. The SRT-4 is a fast car, but still not on the level of the Mustang, even if it can keep up with a stock GT in the 1/4.

dude, im not saying the turbo on the neon is a bolt-on, It comes with the car from the factory! Do you know what a bolt-on is, come on man. Im done with this thread

Yes I know what a bolt on is. But what I am saying is, I consider a turbo a mod regardless of when or where it was put on. Chrysler had to modify the Neon from the factory to get it to go speeds as fast as a stock GT. You put the same power adders on the Mustang, and the SRT-4 has no chance. I am rarely impressed when boosted and intercooled cars can JUST keep up with a N/A stock car. Now if you want to compare stock boosted from the factory Mustang with stock boosted from the factory SRT, again, the SRT has no chance. All I am trying to say is, in the end, the Mustang will always have the advantage over the SRT-4. And from what I have just read in the SRT forums (read above) they aren't that well put together. I am sorry you are "done with this thread" but you can't make up rules that make no sense to make one car look faster on paper than another. I mean you can, but someone will always comment on it. And if/when they do, you surely shouldn't get upset. :/

I've spent almost 10 years reading and learning about freaking Neons. I've owned 3. I got my R/T right before the SRT-4 came out, with plans of putting a turbo in. From what I read in the forums about turbo owners, it's not something for a daily driver. And it took a lot of tuning to get it to work properly. I wont go into the maintenance. That is why Dodge made the SRT-4. TO get a more reliable turbo Neon. They were supposed to sell kits for non SRT-4 Neons to turbo them. But they never did. So my R/T never got turbod. It would have been faster than the SRT simply because it was a lot lighter. I never did do it because It would have been a mistake. Now I am going to sell it for like 2k and use that money for a downpayment on a 02-04 GT. This will be my daily driver. I wont be racing it. I just want a fun daily driver ;)

BTW the guys on ************* are talking about RAPING Mustang Cobras. These numbskulls are the people I am referring to. Now, I am not saying the SRT-4 can't be made to "rape" a stock Cobra. But it would take a lot of modding and money. For what? A FWD Neon..

WHY does the "GT>neon" though i want to hear your reasons why. you cant just say something and it is automaticly true. you have to give facts or statistics, as i did when i said they are the same preformance wise and i would even go as far as saying interior make-up they are the same.

No, interior and makeup are not the same. I suggest you read the "You know you own a SRT" thread I posted above. Neons in general are known to have body/paint/interior problems. Things just falling apart. I've had to fix my Fender and bumper 4x since I bought my R/T because it was falling off. I've heard of similar problems with the SRT-4. Along with the 3rd gear slipping, the shifter knob just coming off, the AC not keeping cool, TONS of things. While the 99-04 GT isn't PERFECT, it hardly has the same problems Neons and teh SRT has had over the years. I give it to the SRT-4 for having a BETTER trim than the Neons it was made for. But for what you pay for it, it better.

I'd rather get a 1st gen coupe with a DOHC engine and put a SRT-4 turbo kit in it. I know people that have done it. It's faster than a stock SRT-4 because the 1st gens weighed considerably less. I actually had plans to do just that to my R/T when I bought it. After reading about it for 5-6 months I decided against it. All the problems that EXPERIENCED mechanics were having, I knew I didn't have a chance. Plus you basically had to rebuild the engine completely.. soo. And this was my daily driver. If you look at the 2003 SRTs now, some even have their front fascias coming loose. Just like the problems the 1st gen Neons had. I wont even go into head gasket problems. I actually got my 99 R/T's head gasket fixed for free because I knew it was defective, and not just abused. But if you didn't know, you got screwed. I still love my R/T, still have a blast driving it. But I wont/don't want to get another Neon based car because of the lack of quality over all that I ran into the past 10 years.

BTW yes I know the SRT-4 is a different car than the 99 R/T. But the R/T was Dodge's TOP OF THE LINE Neon at he time. It was their performance car. The 2nd gen had the same body problems. The paint problems weren't as bad. But the interior door plastic always came off too. A t least the second gens gave frames to the windows.. MAN were they noisy! It seems the SRT-4 still has noise problems.

If my wife still wants the SRT-4, will we get one. But it wont be my daily driver. The Mustang will . Being 36, I feel a bit too old driving a SRT-4.

Here's why I like the GT more than the Neon. Engine life.

The choice comes to two cars that are practically the same speed (talking stock, not modded). The Mustang engine is very reliable and doesn't have problems. There's a lot of people that keep the New Edge for upwards of 200k miles w/out major problems. The SRT-4 doesn't last that long and developes lots of problems w/ the boost.

So, you can buy two cars that are basically the same speed but one has less maintenance than the other. That's my 2 cents.

the neon is a fun little car.. dodge killed it when they made it front wheel drive. That is their major downfall.
It was always front wheel drive. But yeah a RWD Neon would have killed. I still love my 99 R/T. Just want something more without having to rely on a turbo.
