Hey guys, I test drove an 03 GT today because I'm thinking about down-sizing into a cheaper car. BUT it was kind of a slug compared to mine. What did Ford do to the S197 engine to beef up the horsepower? Thanks
....Wait what? 250 with cams and heads.... and "supporting mods?" If its anything close to a full bolt on GT, with PP heads and mild cams, it should be right around 300-310.My buddies 2v made 250 hp on the SAME dyno as my car was tuned on. He has a bad ass set of heads and comp cams, springs, retainers, etc. And alot of supporting mods.
Hehe, yeah, something must have been fubar with his setup, because I KNOW he should have been putting down close to 300.mrsinister, that all depends on the type of dyno you are on. I'm just telling you from what I saw. He laid down 250 with that combo on that particular dyno. Is it "correct"?? I dunno, but I make well over 300 on the same dyno. and BTW, you got a killer deal on your car!!! Looks good too
Did someone say 65 Fastback?besides the 65-70 fastbacks the new edge looks the sexiest to me. But I am partialThe 3V engine is killer though and is right up there with the 4V and better even if you get the heads worked.
Think about this for a second though ... The S197 weighs more so it's going to feel much different. I've got a friend with a fox body that's got a 347ci stroker and he bought a 2008 Mustang GT. When he got it all he could tell me was how it was so slow and it'd run 15s. Than he started taking it to the track and turning mid 13s which he said would never happen. I've ridden in plenty of fast cars that I knew were fast but they just didn't feel fast. The S197 is one of those, IMO. By the way, I responded to your PM.i know im blown and cammed and all but the other day, a 06 Mustang GT came in my dads body shop so i just decided to go take it for a spin. I couldnt believe how SLOW it was. I was like WTF. It was a standard too. I was thinking... "i wouldnt own one of these ever. my harley truck will rape this slow piece!" But then i took into consideration that i may be use to 406 to the wheels vs. a stock new gt. All i do know is... I hope my GT was never as slow as that 06 GT was. My mouth dropped when i floored it thru 1st and 2nd. Sorry if this offends anyone but just throught i'd throw that out there.
+1 on the new edge being one of the best styles there has been! New edge with Fat DR's..... SEX!!!!
Well u might want to tell ur buddie to go over everything he should b making way more than that at least 300 hp or that isn't a gt thats a 6My buddies 2v made 250 hp on the SAME dyno as my car was tuned on. He has a bad ass set of heads and comp cams, springs, retainers, etc. And alot of supporting mods. My car with just a set of NSR cams and a stock air intake, x pipe, and mufflers made 312. This is on a mustang dyno too. Hell stock my car made 262 or something like that on that dyno. 2v cars are not a "piece of ****" by any means, I wouldn't even go as far to say they are inferior. BUT they are not the performers the 3v cars are. Unless built with a blower/turbo.
OK, seriously? You know there are 3 different fastback styles in that time period, right? (64.5-66, 67-68, 69-70) Are you just generalizing that you like the "good old days" of Mustangs? So for example, if I had to pick, I would choose the 69 fastback, which is quite a bit different than the previous models. Just would think you would have one favorite out of the three different cars is all.besides the 65-70 fastbacks the new edge looks the sexiest to me. But I am partialThe 3V engine is killer though and is right up there with the 4V and better even if you get the heads worked.
I personally love the 03-04 cobras, and I so far really like the 2010 Mustangs (although I have yet to see one in person). What I find interesting is that people seem to not like the back end of the 2010, but I see similarities between it and the 03-04 cobra with the black down around the exhaust. Go figure. And just for shits and grins... I'll just leave this here...

not a 2v or a 3v, but I love a fat backend of a new edge.
