I am building a forged, camed, and blown 3V to drop in my new edge. The way I see it, I will have the power benifit as well as the weight loss. The combination should killer when it gets done in JULY/AUG. I like the 197 but I hate how Ford made them bigger. They are going in the wrong direction if you ask me.

My buddies 2v made 250 hp on the SAME dyno as my car was tuned on. He has a bad ass set of heads and comp cams, springs, retainers, etc. And alot of supporting mods.
....Wait what? 250 with cams and heads.... and "supporting mods?" If its anything close to a full bolt on GT, with PP heads and mild cams, it should be right around 300-310.

@OP: Yeah, If you want a new car, and you don't have much of a budget limitation, get the s197. With a little money put into them, they look pretty nice.

As for as a "bang-for-your-buck" argument, that's really a toughie. I bought my car for 4800, with a couple mods already on it. I've spent a total of about 2800 on the car since; and I'm full bolt on minus gears. I can't seem to find a decent 05+ GT for under 18k. It all comes down to what you want to do to the car, and what you think looks better. I prefer the really blocky, angular look of the new edges over the "retro" s197's.

mrsinister, that all depends on the type of dyno you are on. I'm just telling you from what I saw. He laid down 250 with that combo on that particular dyno. Is it "correct"?? I dunno, but I make well over 300 on the same dyno. and BTW, you got a killer deal on your car!!! Looks good too

besides the 65-70 fastbacks the new edge looks the sexiest to me. But I am partial;) The 3V engine is killer though and is right up there with the 4V and better even if you get the heads worked.

Hehe, yeah, something must have been fubar with his setup, because I KNOW he should have been putting down close to 300.

And thanks! I still think to this day, best deal I've ever gotten :)

No way in hell was that dyno correct.. lol I made 238 with a catback and a crappy cai.
12rwhp for cams and heads? lol

as far as the 3v vs 2v thing... the 3v is the better motor. the car itself is a matter of opinion. I prefer the 2v style. It looks more aggressive to me.

i know im blown and cammed and all but the other day, a 06 Mustang GT came in my dads body shop so i just decided to go take it for a spin. I couldnt believe how SLOW it was. I was like WTF. It was a standard too. I was thinking... "i wouldnt own one of these ever. my harley truck will rape this slow piece!" But then i took into consideration that i may be use to 406 to the wheels vs. a stock new gt. All i do know is... I hope my GT was never as slow as that 06 GT was. My mouth dropped when i floored it thru 1st and 2nd. Sorry if this offends anyone but just throught i'd throw that out there.
+1 on the new edge being one of the best styles there has been! New edge with Fat DR's..... SEX!!!!

Think about this for a second though ... The S197 weighs more so it's going to feel much different. I've got a friend with a fox body that's got a 347ci stroker and he bought a 2008 Mustang GT. When he got it all he could tell me was how it was so slow and it'd run 15s. Than he started taking it to the track and turning mid 13s which he said would never happen. I've ridden in plenty of fast cars that I knew were fast but they just didn't feel fast. The S197 is one of those, IMO. By the way, I responded to your PM.

Thats true... Thats why i added that i know im used to my car so that probably is what cause the opinion i had. Man, it seemed so slow. I was dead certain that a stock 97 honda civic will own the new GT. LOL.

Baker, you riding in your car a lot then riding in a stock 3v is like owning a SVT Cobra with an upgraded pulley then riding in a stock 2v. I agree about the stock 3v's feeling slow. After we traded our K&N CAI'd 2006 GT in for a stock GT/CS, the CS felt pretty slow compared to the 06.

yeah... thats why i made that clear that my opinion has been tweaked a lil.

My car with just a set of NSR cams and a stock air intake, x pipe, and mufflers made 312. This is on a mustang dyno too. Hell stock my car made 262 or something like that on that dyno. 2v cars are not a "piece of ****" by any means, I wouldn't even go as far to say they are inferior. BUT they are not the performers the 3v cars are. Unless built with a blower/turbo.
Well u might want to tell ur buddie to go over everything he should b making way more than that at least 300 hp or that isn't a gt thats a 6

OK, seriously? You know there are 3 different fastback styles in that time period, right? (64.5-66, 67-68, 69-70) Are you just generalizing that you like the "good old days" of Mustangs? So for example, if I had to pick, I would choose the 69 fastback, which is quite a bit different than the previous models. Just would think you would have one favorite out of the three different cars is all.

And just for shits and grins... I'll just leave this here...

not a 2v or a 3v, but I love a fat backend of a new edge.
I personally love the 03-04 cobras, and I so far really like the 2010 Mustangs (although I have yet to see one in person). What I find interesting is that people seem to not like the back end of the 2010, but I see similarities between it and the 03-04 cobra with the black down around the exhaust. Go figure.
