ok so i found a 8.8 rear axle with the v6 adapter flange with 3.73 gears and a tlok. Im hopefully gonna buy it here soon since i graduate in like a week. I have watched videos on it and it doesnt seem to bad of an install. i just want to know how hard it will all be? ik u gotta take the drive shaft off the calipers but leave the hoses conected so i dont gotta bleed the brakes. i would imagine the struts and all the suspension components and then the disc brakes but other than that is that about it besides like fluid in the axle and stuff? im just kinda making sure i got it all down so it wont turn into a long ordeal. thanks.oh and on the sct xcall 3 all i gotta do is put 3.73 gears in the tune and it will all be good right? oh and one last one. will i feel the difference in gearing i got a 02 with a 5 spd. would it be more than udp cuz those are wut i felt most or the tune would it be a bigger change than either of those on their own? jc thanks.:yes

Same here. I am gunna change out my rear end in a few months to the 8.8 and going from the 4.10's to the 3.73's since the S/C is coming to. Hope you come back and say the rear end swap isnt crazy hard. :)

Its pretty simple. Some parts can be aggravating though.

Take the wheels off (duh lol)
Disconnect the E brake cable
remove ABS sensors (good luck not breaking them lol, like I did)
unbolt the shocks
unbolt the DS flange that connect to the rear end. (note, you dont need an adapter flange for the 28 spline 4R70W stock shaft at least. Or at the very least for an 03 so it should be 01-04 more than likely. Other years I dont know for sure)
Remove DS
Unbolt bolts holding the rear end in place.

Then reverse the order to reinstall. It will take you about 4-6 hours depending on how much help you have and how fast you go. Btw thats not a complete list of what to do, but gives you an idea. There are some clips here and there you have to remove if I remember right.

Also 3.73s on a manual are the biggest I would go, YES you will feel a huge difference. In terms of by the seat dyno, it feels like you gain about 10-20 HP lol. But really all it is doing is getting you into the powerband faster.

alright sweet thanks and on the ds flange ur talking about is that for the drive shaft adapter how they sell ones with a v6 adapter. i just got a 02 with stock drive shaft so does anyone know do i need to waste my money on that or do i not need it like ewells said. thanks cuz i would be extremely happy if i dont cuz it is like 100- 200 less without that. thanks

Well I cant speak for a manual. Im not sure if the flange is the same or not. I know when I swapped my rear end for a 99GT the DS bolted right back onto the Rear end. At first we though we were going to have to change the flange too, but when we actually went to bolt it on it fitted perfectly. But thats on my 03 Automatic. Hopefully someone who knows will come in.

ok well i am all messed up now thanks for the site with the info very informative. well im lost at wut to do cuz all the rearends i now can find that are the similar yr are the same price as the 05-09 but with stock gears so it would be more money to put gears in. well i am jc on if i used my 7.5 with new 3.73 and a detroit tru trac cuz i hear they r stronger than a stock 8.8 would it work in the future as long as i didnt launch my car with stickies and spray. i plan on either a turbo or spray here in the next yr or so and this summer im p@p and a cam since i got most the bolt ons done. so would it destroy the rear axle?

ok well i just fig now i could spend the money for gears and heck well im back there might as well make both tires spin. and i hopefully will be out of college and have a good job by the time i get the turbo so then i could just pay for a new rear axle.

I would buy the Turbo first before you buy a rear end. You have no where close to the power to destroy your 7.5

hell torres is at 497rwhp with his turbo v6 and still on a 7.5
Well if your talking about a stock 7.5 then yeah it will take just as much power to bend/break the axles as an 8.8 being as they share the same 28 spline axle size.

But if you are talking about using a 7.5 with one of those cheaper tloks then prepare to break that tlok eventually.

To me this is the chicken and the egg.

that they do indeed.. cheap? I never said that.

I follow the whole cheap, fast, reliable thing myself.

I just don't see the need to spend the cash for a rear end right now that will do nothing but make him either slower because of the weight or slightly faster because of the gears in it.

I would get the turbo and drop it in, then save the money for a built 8.8 for when you eventually break the 7.5

well i plan on doing the detroit trutrac cuz it is stonger internally than the 8.8 t lok and it will probabaly suffice with the power i have cuz i dont race to much on a track and when i do i wont be launching. oh and on the detroit trutrac are they locking ones where you have a air cylinder or some electric switch to lock it or are they just like a locking differential like on the 8.8? and is the detroit trutrac the only option out there for the strength?

ok so i have just been looking around for gears and a new differential so im curious to as if anyone knows where i can find the detroit trutrac or the eaton versions becuase i hear they r stronger than the ford tlok? And i found gears from am.com is this a cheap place? and ik i need the install kit with new bearings and stuff and fluid will that be all besides when i find my differential?

ok well now i found a couple 8.8 on ebay for like 5-600 ish. with the gears and the cost of installing them would it not only be a little more than the 7.5 with the new tlok and gears? ik you said it isnt neccessary but if it is only gonna be a couple hundred more might as well get it and be done. One last question how much heavier is the 8.8? and it is for a 99-04 will i need a driveshaft adapter or are the driveshafts the same for the v6 5spd?

you either buy a 8.8 rear end with works and take a chance because you dont know what its been thru with the previous owner.

or you take a chance with a mechanic with your own 7.5 rear end and the works.

what to do, what to do...
