I think that all stock GT's come with 3.31 and anything else was an option.

I haven't bought the car yet. I was just wondering if there was an way to tell other than looking at the rear end. Thanks for all the responses.
You don't trust the guy you are considering buying it from to just tell you? If I had that much doubt over just rear gears, then I would have to wonder about the purchase altogether.

That said, whatever it has, switch 'em to 2.73's. You will get ****ing killer highway mileage bro! :D

Who's to say the guy he's buying it from even knows what gear the car has?

it has nothing to do with trusting the guy, i was just curious if there was a way to tell. By the way it has 3:31 i looked up the window sticker, which is fine with me for now. i drive about 90 miles a day for work. I don't think i will do the 2:73s thanks for your good advice! you do it!:D

Interestingly enough, by even asking that question, you are proving my point. In other words, we all know all you have to do is look at the rear diff cover and read what it says, right? So if you don't trust a guy to look at that and tell you, then how much can you trust him to tell you about the rest of the car? And if by chance the rear gears have been changed and don't match what is on the diff cover, and the seller DOESN'T know that, then what ELSE doesn't he know about the car? Doesn't sound like an informed seller; either way I wouldn't like it.

That said, sounds like our buyer is fine. Found out it has 3.31's. At 90 miles a day (OUCH!), those might be good gears for commuting.
