Well I started waxing my mustang today, using the Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0, and after applying the wax and wiping it off, the paint still feels dirty and not smooth like it should. I am also finding little specs of dirt that are on the clear coat. They come off but I have to use my fingernails, I want to stop this. Another problem I am having is that I am looking at other mustangs on here, and the paint just looks so nice. I know my paint cannot be oxidized that bad because my car does sit outside all day in this Texas heat. I would like to try an electric buffer, anyone know of any good brands???

you need to really take your time when waxing. and don't use those shitty foam buffer pads, instead spend just a little extra on a good one. and really really take your time. buff that **** off as best as possible. look at each section from different angles and buff out any rough spots as you find them. pull your car out into the light and continue looking for rough spots and swirls.

+1 on the clay bar

Wash with dawn first. This will remove all previous coats of wax. Then clay bar, using heavily diluted car wash for lube. Keep rubbing with clay until it feels smooth - and use plenty of lube. Don't want to smudge the clay across the car.

After claying, wash with car wash.

After all that work, its time for waxing. Don't worry - you'll only need clay once or twice a year and each time it will be easier than the time before.

I just bought a buffer from Walmart for $24, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet (Frakken rain). It looks like it's decent quality. I'll let you know how it does when I get to use it. Does sound like you need to clay bar. There's a section in the forums about car detailing. You can learn a lot in there.

Can not go wrong with the clay bar, well worth your time before a wax !

+ I like the Meguiars clay bar kit. Comes with a microfiber cloth and sample cleaner wax.

As far as the show room shine, you get that from carnauba wax. :D

I borrowed the Porter Cable machine from a friend and got great results my first try. Used it on a 5 year old black Subaru that had damage from New England sand/salt winters. I was able to learn everything I needed from youtube and autogeek.net, obsessivedetail.com.

Wax on. Wax off. Always look eye ! No seriously, Zymol kicks ass !
