hey all, havent been on here in awhile. Ive been looking at vortech recently and was looking at prices. This is the cheapest i found so far and it doesnt come with an intercooler. I'm looking for maybe 400 to the ground with 6-8lbs. Would i be okay with this one and would i be safe without an intercooler? what do you guys think of the vortechs compared to procharger?
heres the link.
Vortech Supercharger Tuner kit V-2 SCi-Trim, Polished 2003-04 4V Mustang Mach1 [VOR-4FR218-118SQ] - $3,800.00 : Powered By Ford - Your only high performance parts supplier for your Ford car or truck, When you want it done right and done well there is,
thanks for the help in advance, btw i posted this in 4v section and hvent gotten any answers and this thread looks more active. just trying to get some suggestions. thanks

You can achieve that goal pretty easily on a 4v. I'm making 366rwhp/382 rwtq @ 8 #s with no intercooler and I only have a 2v. Also, note that I have stock exhaust, so believe me when I say you can make 400. Running 8#s with no intercooler won't hurt a thing, but I noticed on the dyno that the power really started nose diving once the blower was really spinning in the upper RPMs, but an intercooler will cure that. Grab a DIYintercooler from CXRacing from ebay for about $200. Many people are running them and have had very good results.

oh okay. yeah im a little sketched out on buying car parts on ebay but yeah ill deff look into that. is that a pretty good price 3800? how does it compared to procharger? do u like how it pulls? any problems with it? yeah i no with the 4v ill put out more power. i dont want the car running too hot so i was just making sure i dont need one. i have 4:10 gears so should i go back to the stock 3.55 gears?

I like how it pulls from right around 2500 rpms up to red line, but it will pull differently with those gears. I'd go 3.73s, but that's my personal opinion. Running 8-10 #s you'll be ok with out an intercooler, but it's definitely a suggested item down the road. I paid $3,350 shipped for mine a couple years ago. The only problem I had was the oil feed fitting that is made out of brass. It leaked and I tightened it a little too much and it broke. If you are going with the self lubricating Vortech then you don't need to worry about it. The thing I like about Vortech is they use the same bracketry, so if you want to upgrade later to a t-trim you don't have to change out the bracket just the blower.

On another note get the tuner kit and buy your own fuel pump and injectors. The pump they give you is for return style and ours is a returnless style. It will work, but eventually you'll burn the pump up. I have a Ford GT supercar pump and it works perfect and will supply enought power for what my goals are.

oh ok thanks bro for the info. yeah ill get the tuner kit. the ford gt pump is around 500 bucks right? Im thinking the 4:10 gears will light up the tires so yeah i might just go with the 373 or put back the stock 3 55s. ill see what my tuner thinks. I dont want the rpms flying up before i get good amount of boost. my dad got me a bullitt about a year and i loved it. i had 125 shot with longtubes 3 73s and some other **** in it. it was puttnig down around 360 whp. then we traded it in for a new 427r and my dad handed me the mach1 that we got in 2003 .

You can get the GT pump for right around $100 on ebay. That's where I got mine and haven't had a problem. The Ford GT has two fuel pumps, you only need to buy one. Running 4.10s won't hurt anything as far as boost is concerned. In fact with those gears and the affect it has on running hight RPMs vs stock will get you into boost faster, but the down side is getting the tires to stick. Yes, if you stay at 8 #s of boost you won't need an intercooler, but you can pick up some power from an intercooler and adding a power pipe. I suggest running a power pipe as it can give you 1-2 #s of boost without swaping pullies or spinning the blower any faster and adding an intercooler can drop your boost. So by adding the power pipe and the intercooler you will stay roughly at the same boost level as before an intercooler setup.

Let's put it this way when I was getting my Bullitt dyno tuned it was only pulling 350 at the wheels, because it was running hotter. We let it sit for about 10 minutes with a fan directly on the blower plus the big fan used with dyno's and it pulled the 366rwhp. That's 16rwhp difference and only letting the engine/blower cool off for 10 mintues. Imagine what an intercooler would do. It would probably do better than the 16 rwhp I gained plus keeping your IATs down will give you better timing to make more power.

ive always wondered. How does an intercooler REALLY cool air. and if it does, by how much?

just seems like it gives it more room to travel and the intercoooler itself seems like it would be a pretty big boost killer. I have one but i have always had one so i dont know the difference in not having one.

you could always run a water/meth injection kit from snow performance. thansk what i have and love it. cheaper than an ic, but the only down side is you gotta re fill it, but that depends on how often you get on your car

okay thanks guys for the info. yeah i might look into getting an intercooler later on since im in florida and the summer days can get hot as ****. its not hard to put on the intercooler after you installed the s/c right? i would probably get one after couple weeks or months.

one part connects to the throttle body, it goes down and connects to one side of the intercooler ( the left side). then the ic is behind the bumper, and that side ( right side) connects to the blower, which will have to be rotated or re clocked to accept the ic piping

if you wants pics, just search, becasue there is a bunch of threads on how to install the ic. i was thinking about going this route but i went with a water/meth injection instead, as it was more cost efficient
