ok so i searched on this but i couldnt really find anything on it. Ok so i decided to wait on the differntial becuase i dont want to waste the money when im gonna make some serious power here in a year and have to upgrade to the 8.8. I decided just to buy some lowering springs and just 3.73 gears. I am curious to how hard it is just to install new gears. I have been thinking about it and i dont think it seems to hard. I know obviously i got to take the differential out and unbolt the gears and and put the new ones on and put in the new pinion gears. I have been thinking about it and the shims for the backlash on the side of the differential as long as i kept the same exact ones on the same side would i have to change any of that since i am only putting new gears on and not a new differntial. Would the only thing i need to worry about be the new pinion and getting the mesh pattern correct on there? If anyone has a step by step on how to do the gears just on the v6 for an 02 i would greatly appreciate it. I just want to know what to do. summer is coming to an end and i would like to order the stuff tom and get it done on the following weekend. thanks.

If you think about a gear swap, it will sound easy. Thats until you get into backlash and gear travel and unusual things like that. If you mess them up, your rear will blow before you leave the driveway. You need a couple special tools too to measure backlash. Id save up 200 bucks and have someone else do it for you.

If you don't know how to do gears...don't do them. Have a professional do it. You can try to find one out there that will be nice enough to teach you, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it.

why would you have to adjust backlash and stuff if ur only putting gears in? i dont get that since the gears would be bolting onto my stock differential so i dont understand why i would have to change any shims on the side as long as i got the exact ones on the right side.

ok so i have read all those articles that you have provided for me and it definately sounds doable. I am not stupid when it comes to cars this will be my first rear end but im going to school this fall for automechanics so i will have a step up from other people on the rear end. And anyways i dont really have anything so i can take my time on my car and just learn as i do it.
