I took my 03 GT to the track last friday. My first time ever at the track. They were having some computer problems early in the day but got it fixed right as I got there. I am very dissapointed in my times. The first run was a 15.306 @94.61mph, 2.304 60'. The fastest run of the night was a 15.201 @94.68mph, 2.522 60'. It ran constant 15.3?? all night long. The car is not set up for 1/4 mile. It was built for the twisties. I think I have a couple ideas why its so slow. First of all, im having major shifting problems into 3rd gear. I bet it went 200 feet before I could get the car in gear. Second, the IRS and street tires were killing me. I had MAJOR wheel hop while launching at anything over 1k rpm. So I ended up just taking off like I do on the street. Then once its rolling, floor it. Third, The steeda timing adjuster was advanced 4 degrees for fuel economy(got it thatway). I believe my car also had nitrous on it before I got it so that might have been a problem. I don't know. Last but not least, I think I might have been holding 3rd too long. I shifted into 4th at 5500. the 15.2 run I shifted into 4th at ~4800. the car also weighs 3760lbs with me in it.

Are those respectable times for my car? I have no idea what it should run.

first, why on earth are you shifting at 4800? second, your launch and your shifting are slaughtering your times! going nearly 1/6th of the quarter trying to shift is bad. lauching on crappy tires is also bad. radials or slicks+a better launch will do wonders.

Ok,
First we need to know the elevation your track is at?
As the others stated though, your weight, tires, shift points, launch ...all are having detrimental effects to a proper et for that car.

On the East Coast here, a car like yours (on stock street tires) 800 ft elevation cuts a 2.0 short time and averages high 13s at 100 mph or so.

your 60 ft times need some serious help. I was able to pull 2.0 to 2.2 all day in my FWD eclipse at e-town.

not sure why you are having trouble shifting into 3rd with the mgw. do you have this trouble on the street or is it your nerves at the track killing you?

Before my cams I ran a 13.5 and my car weighs about 3600 with me in it. I shifted at 6k. I know a stock gt doens't make power that high but the higher you shift the more your going to be into your powerband when you do indeed shift.

As for going off the line. Let out on the clutch and pedal it, dont pussy foot it. Your trap speeds are **** so somethings off. Is the car tuned for the 30lb injectors? If not taht could be causing you to lose all midrange if it's dumping more fuel than it thinks it is.

I know what the problem is!!! The wheels are too big and too heavy. I will swap mine for your you should shave 2seconds off pm me!:):):):):)

What was the temps and elevation? I say take it to 5800rpm before shifting you're past the peak hp but you want it to be in the peak TQ rpm when you come into the next gear.

dose this have 13" rotors in the rear if so ,, when i installed my 13 " rotors i felt a noticable loss in power .... the wheight of the car is not helping
no stock size rears.
30lb injectors huh
thats what the guy had in his ad when I bought it. well I just went and checked. they are the stock pink ones.

I was shifting at 5500 andd the car felt like it was falling on its face after 5k.

Its because the syncro is screwed. yes its doing it on the street. just not as bad. I baby the car into 3rd on the street.

track elevation is 1165ft.

I though about slipping the clutch a little but lost my train of thought after there was a huge nitrous backfire in the car ahead of me.

just checked. they are stock injectors

they are actually very light. add $2000 and we have a deal.

ill try that. I think a shift light will help. temp was about 89-95. but I made my best run before it started to cool off.

I was bumper to bumper with the yellow vert until I hit third. Then he just left me. Im not sure his mods but it didn't sound a healthy as mine. The computer wasn't working on the one run we got paired up.

I set of 15 or 17 inch rear wheels with drag radials will help you knock off about 3 tenths of a second off your 1/4 mile time.

Cool dry air will knock another 3 tenths or so off as well.

Missing third gear probably cost you as much as 5 tenths.

So with all that you'd be down around 14 seconds, which is still kinda slow considering you've got intake and exhaust mods, but not totally horrible I guess.

Shifting at 5500 rpms is probably about right for your car.

I wouldn't dump any money into or worry about it if you are selling it. My MGW banged 3rd gear like hitting a brick wall sometimes. It was so hard to get in, I just skipped to 4th.
that what i did on a run. ended up with a 16.??

i just want the thing tu run right. it it about time to change the plugs i think.

Hmm, my .02 says to get that 3rd gear issue resolved. You can see what i run in my sig. I have an auto, I launch at 1300-1400, tires slip at 1600. A lot of times you just need some quality seat time. I have been doing this since the beginning of the year and am still getting it all down as far as watching the lights, bringing up the RPMs and going on 3rd yellow. I have got some good R/T's and solid 60's. Also, you don't want to do a big burnout on street tires, just a quick spin to clean em off. My first run was a 15.45 and that was because I was just new to the whole thing. I am hoping to be mid to low 13's before the season is over. You should be in the 13's easy with that list.
