cali smog laws suck...they put an exhaust sniffer on ur exhuast tip so if you dont have cats im sure that sniffer will tell em, but u can pay like 250 bucks around here and do it illegally.

1.Jack up the front of the car real high and put it on some jackstands.

2. Unhook the battery.

3. undo the electrical connections to your starter.

4. Use a 7/8 open end wrench and remove your upstream passenger side oxygen sensor.

5 Remove the 3 ( yes, there is a third one you just can't see it without a mirror.) bolts holding on your starter and pull it out. They should all be 13mm. **Tip: you can feel the top bolt with your fingers and rig up a series of extensions and a universal joint socket and feed that between the motor mount and the header to remove the top bolt.

6. Remove the 2 nuts holding on the passenger side of your midpipe.

7. remove the upstream driver's side oxygen sensor.

8. Remove the two bolts connecting your midpipe to your headers.

9. Unplug your 2 rear oxygen sensors.

10. remove the 4 nut and bolt combo's holding your midpipe to your catback.

11. your midpipe should just be held to the car now by a pair of exhaust hangers by the transmission. slide the hangers off the rubber pieces and your midpipe is now off the car.

12. swap your rear oxygen sensors over to your new midpipe and follow the installation instructions that came with your new midpipe. If you don't have instructions, just follow these steps in reverse.

** If your installing a 2 piece midpipe ( H pipe ), I found it's best to fit the center section together BEFORE you install either pipe onto the car. If your installing a 3 piece midpipe ( pypes X pipe ) then I found it best to install the two forward ( header connections) pieces first then install the x piece to them.

.
Thanks that helped alot...do i have to remove starter?

Yes, you have to. Unless you have some seriously double jointed baby sized fingers and a magic wand to flex your midpipe through your floorboard to achieve the proper angle to clear the flanges on both sides at the same time. It's not really hard to remove or reinstall.

i didnt remove it, if you do remove it will help you install it easier

lol I dont know what to do!!!??? Everyone has different answers...?

what I meant about the shells was cutting around the seam and then just welding the sheemetal 'shells' you have on top of the existing exaust pipe
interesting words. if california had a visual only i would soo be down to do that.

Well i have decided to go with the pypes offroad x pipe to replace my stock cats.....i still do not know if i have to take out the starter or not?

well if you can't angle it right when your installing THEN you might wanna take it out.

you dont have to remove that starter, dont listen to 97s281 :p , but like i said if you wana make it easier by all means take it off.

Ok yea I wass looking at it and it looked like if u took it off u could do it but if u left it on it looks like it will still work but a little harder

yup correct, i didnt take it off, so i struggled a lil more but with some extensions and swivels its do-a-ble

ok thanks, yea i looked at that and for the passenger side i am going to need swivels and extentions lol, but its not too hard

ur welcome, reps always welcomed haha....but yeah bro its a lil tuffer but you can do it, and dont forget to disconncet your battery, i didnt disconnect it and i had a couple spark shows down there lol

yea im going to have to look at it again and i might6 remove it...and yea my friend works at a muffler shop and he said once he forgot to unhook the battery and sparks shot at him once lol
