Since mine have never been replaced, I think it would be a good idea. Plus I need an excuse of something to buy for the car.

I would really like to get either Cross Drilled/Slotted or just Slotted. I see a low price set on ebay for like $130, but there its no mention on zinc platting. I do NOT want rotors that are gonna rust like crazy.

I could get a set from R1Concepts for $189 shipped, anyone had experience with them?

I've heard good things about R1 Concepts. I guess I figure rotors take a beating all the time and are exposed to the weather all the time so they're going to rust. Zinc coating will only last so long before it wears off (although much longer than just having the metal exposed). So I take it you'll be pulling your rotors off every time you wash the car to remove the rust?
:lol

knowing me......

No, Lol. However I do want them to stay as rust free as possible. Hence the idea of coating the outer edge in some ceramic black paint to cover the zinc. That way it will last even longer.

Heck... I wonder if I could tape off the entire rotor and cut out the slots/holes and paint them with it as well. Since these recessed areas never make contact with the pad it would not rub off. It just comes into close contact with high hear and dust.

dammit... sometimes I wish I could STOP thinking of stuff to do.

I think you'd be ok painting the outer edge and maybe the area with the holes for the wheel studs. Imo use engine enamel or some sort of paint that can handle the heat. The rotors get ****ing hot. The other day I thought my caliper bracket bolts were backing out again so when I got out of the car I pushed on the rotor to see if it moved at all. Yeah, I wasn't thinking at all and I've been regaining feeling in my finger tips lol.

I think I am gonna do like this guy:

StopTech Rotors - Painting for Rust Ring - MyG37

However part of me just wants to hit the entire thing with high-temp enamel and just let the rotor remove whatever it hits. That way EVERYTHING is a flat black except for the area the rotor removes, and then the only exposed metal is the section that is constantly bein re-srufaced by the pad...

Only problem there is that the slots and holes will show rust.
You could paint the slots and holes yourself and then you would have the powder coat on the rest, and that should be more durable than painting the whole thing, right?

Im also looking for some new rotors, i saw some brackets somewhere a couple days ago that let you use your stock calipers but cobra rotors, but now i cant find the link :(

True, however the already powder coated ones are more expensive. I think I will go with the R1's since they have a good rep and paint the entire thing in Flat engine enamel black. Let the pad remove whatever paint in comes in contact with, and see how it goes. If its not holding up I can always get them powder coated later on.

I doubt the pre-coated ones are good powder coating.

Gonna toss a PM to Travis asking about what the best paint would be for this. I would assume just some adhesion promoter and engine enamel. Self etching primer would not work I don't think...

let us know what you end up using. Im replacing my pads and rotors soon so if painting them works out good i will do that. Im also going to keep looking for those brackets i saw :p

Just PMed Travis about it. I imagine this would work. I just know someone is gonna be like "OMG your idiot you can't paint your rotors its dumb!" Lol.

I would think this will cover the entire surface area yet still show enough shiny silver from where the pad makes contact. That it it stops rust and still shows the shiny eye candy.

If you decide to change pads at the same time as rotors, definitely get ceramics. I went with semi-metallic for the lower cost and the better braking when the pads are still cold. Well I went out and washed my wheels earlier, went for a little drive and found them with a bit of a matte black look after a short drive. I'm definitely going ceramic next time.
