when my coil went bad it would just stall and then not start again

unplug your mass air, if it doesnt change anything you know its bad... it should stall your car or change the way its running when you unplug it

I just had this battle with my car.. took about a year to figure it all out. Turned out to be the distributor (after I replaced my coil, plugs, wires, cap, rotor with no change), I had the fuel system checked under load and I was baffled. No check engine light either. I did get a code about a fuel pump circuit failure. Typical PIP/pickup coil symptom.

The first thing I would suggest is that you pull codes and let us know what it says. Remember, you can have codes stored even when the check engine light is not on.

there are quite a few problems that will not throw a CEL and won't even throw a code that gets stored without lighting the CEL.
When the PIP inside the distributor goes bad, there typically are no codes, no CEL. the car just has symptoms of a fuel system fault.

Also, unplugging the MAF with the car running doesn't always prove a bad MAF. sometimes there is no change whatsoever and its a tossup to whether or not the MAF is bad. Sometimes it needs just to be cleaned with CRC electronics spray. Its also a tossup whether or not a code shows up when the MAF is bad, although I did have a MAF code/CEL when mine went bad.

If you can, hook up a fuel pressure gauge to your fuel rail so that you can monitor fuel pressure under load. that type of procedure is usually reserved for people that troubleshoot at a repair shop but I have a pressure gauge installed in a gauge pod in my car so it makes more sense than it sounds right now.

when was the last time you changed your fuel filter? I ask this question first to a lot of people that have fuel system symptoms because its a maintenance item that is usually overlooked.
