Then they shouldnt have made the speedo go so high lol Its prob no harder on the car than burning out and taking her to redline.
The difference is that if something breaks during a burnout, you don't die.

I hit 110-115 once.. that was enough for me, unless I'm on a track I don't see the need.. But I'm sure you have enough RPM w/ 4.10s.. considering I do 80-85mph @ 3k..

Doing a burnout your tire is nowhere close to spinning at 150 mph and andrewskaggs said you're not moving when you do a burnout. Imagine what would happen if you broke a tie rod end doing 150. Your tire would flop around, you'd probably flip your car, and you'd almost certainly die

lol whats gunna break and send me to me death that couldnt happen at 75-80mph? Tires would be my biggest concern but thats why I dont run cheap ass tires either.

You're bass ackwards. We're saying stuff will break at 75-80 that could kill you that wouldn't break during a burnout. Big whoop if you snap an a arm during a burnout, but do it going down the freeway at 120 and hold the **** on

It could I guess, but my chances of getting hit by a drunk driver are probably more likley. I dont hit those speeds on a regular basis, but I do like to open her up once in awhile and I have trust in my car and my driving abilities. Anything could happen at anytime really, just a risk we all take everytime we get behind the wheel. But as a precaution I buy the best parts I can and maintain/inspect everything myself on a regular basis. The rush just beats the fear, if I had to worry about all the "what ifs" in life, Id never leave my house.

You're engine was spinning at 5500 rpm in 5th which has a ratio of .68:1 so your driveshaft was spinning at 8088 rpm. Through your gears that have a ratio of 4.1:1 so your tires were spinning at 1972.75 rpm. Your tire's circumference, assuming a 245/45/17, is 80.68". 80.68" spinning at 1972.75 rpm will cover 159160.60" per minute, 9549636.41" per hour, 795803.03' per hour, or 150.72 mph. Factoring in drivetrain loss and grip loss, 130 isn't unusual
:bow

At those speeds, you're just covering too much ground to react to anything that happens.

And the driveshaft.........Have you seen what happens to a stock driveshaft at 120mph? It's scary, the center starts bowing outwards from the force, it's not even straight anymore.

I have 4.10s and can easily crack 120 in 4th. Ive had it up past 135 ish but that was once. Im sure it will go alot farther.

Hes saying things are designed to handle 75-80 mph with no problem... sure if they do break you could die going those speeds, but if the components are not designed to go 120 mph, there is a large increase in the probability that they will break... why risk it?

You use the drunk driving comparison... driving at 75-80 mph is like driving on a road where 1 out of 100 drivers are drunk... would you drive on a road where 50 out of 100 drivers are drunk? not me...

I was doing like 5500 at 130 but that was just a slight glance (didnt want to wrap around a telephone pole). I went that fast just that once to see how much of an improvement the tune was, and yea the tuner specifically ask me what gears I had. So IDK, I mean im not complaning or anything just asking.

Of topic MP cobra fan your "warning" is so true and funny as hell!!!
If thats the "only time" you've gone that fast, to what are you comparing it that you need to go that fast?

Your logic on this one is incredibly wrong, Matt.

LOTS of things could break at those speeds and kill you.

There is a difference between not worrying about 'what ifs', and not thinking rationally.

And it's not just what could happen to your car. You get driving more than 70-80 mph on public roads, and the danger level rises astronomically. Not just because of what 'might' blow up. Simple physics. It takes far longer to stop your Mustang from just 80 mph than it does from 60. Even with suspension modifications, your Mustang does not handle as well at 80+ mph as it does at 60. There is a huge difference from 60-80 mph. Huge.

Then, we have to take into account that public roads are not meant to be driven on at those speeds. You could hit an oily spot, a pothole, something laying in the road. They aren't maintained to perfection like a track is, because it's just not possible to do so. The DOT does their best keeping the roads in good shape, but if you haven't randomly seen something laying on the road, be it a piece of steel, a gator from a tractor trailer, a ladder, or whatever, then you haven't been driving very long.

Good luck hitting something like that at 80+ mph. And the best tires in the world aren't going to save you from hitting even a large bolt at those speeds.

you really dont need to worry about topping out, with the 3.31's or whatever your looking at 200+ top out i mean your never even gonna be going 170(i hope:eek:) so dont worry about riding with 4.10's

I hit a tire once on the freeway. Luckily I saw it coming and had time to brace for it
(I had no room to move out of the way in time safely) and I was able to keep control of the car and bring it to a stop. Granted I was going 5-10 over (70-75mph) but I saw the object and knew I had to run it over, and knew to put both hands on the wheel and do what I could to keep control.
I got off the highway safely and This:

Turned into this:

The thing is.. I had time to react. At 120 or so I would not have had time to react and things would have been much worse.

I had a friend that said he once got a stock 99 gt so fast it cut off on him. I said no way cuz that would be the most dangerous thing I would think to lose power steering and brakes. He always was a b.s.er

ok no one should go that fast let alone in a busy area but im wont lie i do it all the time on my bike but in the middle of no where and with a group thats spead out the only time i have taken my stang past 125 was by myself on a long blacktoped road i refuse to be responsible for someone else other than myself at those speeds but i wont lie speed is an addrenaline rush to me and under a lot of peoples terms i drive like an idiot which i can some times but i love to push my car for the feeling i get when i do it....
