i had the same problem like 2 weeks ago. Ended up being the circuit breaker that controls the power windows on the starter solenoid.
you mean this ting?

i checked most of the cable goin to te starter but cant find ne thing and its pretty tight no movement. now can i take off the c/b that goes to the windows and try that? and can i get that part at an auto part store?
I'm pretty sure you are only supposed to have one wire on that right terminal. I could be wrong, but mine only has the wire going to the starter. you can get that circuit breaker at advance. I know I work there and they are with the fuses. You just have to take some mounting pieces off the old c/b in order to switch them out
The full size starter and the mini starter are wired different. So you "may" have only one wire on the right terminal.

Yeah that doesn't look right. Even if it were a mini starter all the wires would be on the other side except the small one going to the ignition post on the starter, which would be on the left post. If it is a regular starter, that looks like it would send power to the starter constantly and burn it slap up. Looks fishy.

see im not the only one who thinks that second wire on the neg. terminal is fishy!

well the main wire to the "mini" starter grounded out on the header. What a PITA on trying to work with the starter w/ long tube headers, i got the wires off but could not get the starter out, im guessing i need to unbolt the header to get the starter out. But i reran the wires back to the relay, yes i hooked up the wires right on the relay, i go and try and start it and nothing will not start but everything works; lights, fuel pump......the starter got really really hot. so what could this be? bad starter?

Yeah that was my first post said it might be. Guess I am getting better at this, but I won't let it go to my head, yet. :woot Glad to hear you figured that part out, now you just gotta figure out what you burnt up. The starter, the alternator, the module, or the Starter solenoid.

i just wished i would of been able to take the starter out.....all that work for nothing :3gears i ran the wires differently, like under oil pan instead of through the headers and put some high temp tape on the wires.

i just didnt start at all, turned the key and nothing turned. isnt the Starter solenoid on the starter?

Yes, but your ignition wire should still go to the original solenoid and another wire running from the neg side of the solenoid to the solenoid on the starter. When you turn the key on in essence it should activate the original solenoid which sends power to the solenoid on the starter. If it is hooked up right. I guess anything can be done different if you put your mind to it, though. At least thats how it is done on that article they posted earlier.

Basically every wire to include the heavy gage wire going to the starter, should be hooked to the windshield side of the solenoid, and the ignition wire should be hooked up top middle, and the small power wire that goes to the solenoid on the starter should be on the headlight side of the solenoid. Either your not getting power thru the first solenoid or the solenoid on the starter got fried. That's the best I can come up with.

Yep, thats how i have it hooked up, so im guessing its the starter. But when i hook up the battery you can hear the starter click.

Well you got power to the starter then. Either the starter motor is bad or the starter bendix (do they still have those) is bad. Either way you probably need a starter rebuild or a new starter. New starter is quicker solution. Maybe someone else might have a suggestion.

well if you hear the starter click when you hook the battery up, the internal switch and the starter are done for. get new ones.

it sounds like it could be but not for sure, i know Darrell or Tony can answer this one, and fixing that on the side of the road isnt as bad as trying to fix intercooler pipes after the couplings came apart on the side of a very busy highway in the dark with no flashlight, talk about shitting my pants lol
I've replaced rear end gears in a Mcdonalds parking lot. I was young, did not have crap for tools and quite honestly, had no real idea what I was doing but the car worked for another 6 months off of that hack job replacement.

wow how the hell did you set backlash? gapping it with a straw? hahaha
i dont even want to know how you pulled off a rear gear swap at mcdonalds
