Hey guys,

i'm somewhat new to building my first 1990 mustang. I"m thinking of putting a super charger on the car for quick speed. I've been reading on the forum boards if i should or need a intercooler when i do. And would i have to change the cams, fuel injectors and the fuel pump when i do put a supercharger? And one member here says Vortech V1 is safest way to go. Thanks for your help guys.

i don't know much about s/c's but i know supporting mods;
you'll def need to upgrade to maybe 42#, a 255 pump and a tune
as for cams, you don't NEED them, but an aftermarket blower friendly cam will help
and an intercooler would never hurt.
as i said, im just getting into the whole boosted world

Hello
Here are a few suggestions for you for forced induction. Injectors such as 24s or 30's you are going to need a FMU. Which will allow you fuel pressure to adjust to the boost using vacuum. And a adjustable fuel pressure regulator which will allow you to adjust the FP so the car will be able to idle. And a cam will really livin up the motor under boost as well. And last but not least you are going to need a mass air meter that is calibrated for a SC and your injector. and ignition system as well with a BTM to allow the box to start pulling timing under boost to eliminate detonation.

But what it comes down to is how big do you want to go...the sky is the limit when it comes to big boost.....which can be a real big pain . Well I hope that helps if you have any other questions feel free to ask.
Thanks
Brad :D

Thanks for the information guys. My main goal is to get my HP around 300. I already ordered a AOD heavy duty transmission that will support 450 HP. With 300 HP, would i have to do any fuel injector/Fuel pump modifications and mess with the MAF? I was hoping to jsut do the supercharger, 70mm throttle, BBK shorty headers, 3.73 gear and magnaflow's. Thanks again for the advice.

btw, i was checking out a website and there's this thing called the bank 4 eliminator chip that will change the settings on your ECU, providing a little bit more power. IS that a hoax or would something like that really work? ANd when it's time to smog, all you do is change back to your original factory settings.

Oh and the other thing is i have to keep it somewhat simple, being in california there's a lot of rules and regulations. I think if i put a letter cam in there, i'm gonna get pulled over. Cops are pretty strict when they see any kind of fox body stangs. haha.

I dont think a cop can tell if you have a cam haha, unless the lift is just rediculous and your sitting next to him at a red light lol.

But why only 300hp when you have a 5.0

There are so many ways to obtain 300hp just N/A easily.

If 300 is your goal, I say no supercharger unless you are just wanting to hear that whine :)

haha, i can settle for high 300's. I guess my main concern is i want a daily driving car with a bit of kick but i don't want to go blowing up the engine. haha. Is there a safe way i can build up my car and keep it legal at the same time?

The Bank 4 Eliminator appears to be a legit enough device; the trouble is it's not tuned for a supercharger and would do more harm than good if you just get one set up for a naturally aspirated Mustang. You'll definitely need larger injectors and the stock electronics setup won't cut it.

There's a couple different options. We've come out with a plug and play standalone engine management system that could be easily tuned for boost - it retails for $560 and uses a built in boost sensor instead of the MAF, lets you tune for larger injectors and boost without needing a FMU, BTM, or larger MAF. Or you could go with the combination of a larger MAF and a tuning device for your stock ECU. There's no shortage of options there either, but you'll either want something dyno tuned for your car, or if you must go with a canned tune, get one for a car with as close to your specific combination of mods as possible.
